Overview of role
UPMC Whitfield Hospital are recruiting a Clinical Specialist Radiographer PET CT on an 11-month Fixed Term Contract. The position requires the ability to lead, guide and supervise Radiographic staff and to manage service delivery on a day-to-day basis. The post holder should be able to adapt in a rapidly changing environment and undertake additional duties as assigned. The role involves rotating through other areas in the department as needed to maintain professional competence across the department. The successful candidate must have a high capacity for responsibility and initiative.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical
* To undertake the management of PET CT Patients in conjunction with the RSM and the CT Clinical Specialist.
* Fulfil the requirement for an experienced Nuclear Medicine Lead for the PET CT department.
* Undertake PET CT nuclear medicine processes and training with the aim of delivering a high-quality PET CT service.
* To deliver a PET CT service at UPMC Ireland sites.
* To lead on radiation safety associated with the nuclear medicine processes within PET CT.
* To manage and develop the PET CT QA programme and Nuclear Medicine Lab QA programme.
* Support the Radiology team and help organise and coordinate workflow within the department.
* Keep abreast of new developments applicable to PETCT Imaging.
* Offer help and advice to junior staff.
* Be responsible for and care for all equipment including auxiliary equipment and operate such equipment as required by the treatment plan in a safe manner.
* Dispense and administer FDG or other isotope following appropriate patient preparation, screening and assessment including IV cannulation.
General
* Provide leadership when required, promoting healthy working relationships.
* Deliver strategic and clinical leadership for an effective, efficient, quality-assured and patient-centred PET CT service.
* Organise, plan and prioritise workload according to clinical need.
* As team leader, take primary day-to-day responsibility for the PET CT Imaging service and resource utilisation.
* Be accountable for day-to-day quality of the service, including customer service and technical aspects.
* Contribute to operational policies, protocols and guidelines to ensure optimum resource use and audits.
* Advise on equipment selection, purchase, replacement or upgrading.
* Contribute to service plans and monitor their implementation; maintain accurate clinical data in line with hospital standards.
* Report operation issues to Radiography Services Manager.
* Manage use of consumables efficiently.
* Assess patient suitability for IV injections by checking renal function and any contraindications.
* Implement a continuous learning programme for staff to stay up to date on PET CT and Nuclear Medicine Safety issues, including department environment and device updates.
* Dispense and administer IV injections as per departmental policy.
* Ensure patients who suffer a contrast reaction or any other illness during or after an imaging incident are cared for and followed up in line with UPMC Hospital Policy.
* Maintain patient confidentiality at all times and ensure staff uphold this principle.
* Respect the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of all patients and staff.
* Monitor stock levels in the immediate work area.
* Liaise with the Radiography Service Manager and senior staff on staff rotation to ensure adequate trained staffing.
* Ensure staff are trained to perform Manual Handling tasks including patient movement in accordance with Hospital Policy and Training.
Radiation Safety
* Ensure the three principles of radiation protection – justification, optimisation (ALARA) and dose constraints/limits – are adhered to.
* Be familiar with SI 256 and SI 30 relating to safety standards and protection against ionising radiation in medical exposure.
* Demonstrate flexibility to extend working hours in PET CT and Radiology as volume increases.
Qualifications & Experience
Eligible Criteria:
* Possess a Degree in Radiography or the Diploma of The College of Radiographers
* Must be registered in the Radiographer’s Division by The Radiographers Registration Board maintained at CORU
* Must have not less than 5 years full-time post-qualification clinical experience
Desirable but not mandatory:
* Possess a recognised postgraduate course in CT recognised by the IIRRT
* Management course

* Maintain, enhance and develop knowledge, skills and aptitudes to respond to changing clinical profile of patients and legal requirements such as licensing.
* Participate in human resource planning, recruitment and staff selection as required.
* Participate and deliver CPD.
* Provide peer support when necessary.
