Job Title: Projects Director - Ireland
Location: (Open to candidates living anywhere in Ireland or Northern Ireland, with frequent travel required across regional project sites)
Role Overview
This is a senior executive leadership role with full accountability for the governance, commercial performance and successful delivery of a €40m+ portfolio of capital projects and technical services programmes across the island of Ireland. The Projects Director will lead complex programmes and strategic project delivery within regulated and mission‑critical environments, including Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Manufacturing, Healthcare and Technology sectors. The role is responsible for ensuring safe, commercially successful and operationally excellent delivery while driving portfolio growth, client retention, transformation and continuous improvement.
Operating as a key member of the Ireland senior leadership team, the Projects Director will provide executive leadership across multi‑disciplinary delivery teams throughout ROI and NI and act as a senior representative for ABM with strategic customers, executive stakeholders and industry partners. The successful candidate will bring strong programme governance capability, commercial acumen and the ability to balance structured project controls and governance disciplines (PMBOK/PRINCE2) with pragmatic Agile delivery approaches within fast‑paced operational environments.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Project Delivery & Growth
Lead the successful delivery, governance and commercial performance of a €40m+ portfolio of capital projects & engineering programmes across ROI & NI
Provide executive leadership across complex, multi‑disciplinary project environments within Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Healthcare, Technology and Manufacturing sectors
Act as executive sponsor for strategic customer relationships, building long‑term partnerships focused on growth, retention and delivery excellence
Drive programme governance, delivery assurance and portfolio standardisation across Ireland operations
Lead mobilisation, transition and strategic growth initiatives across regulated and GxP environments
Identify opportunities for portfolio expansion, operational transformation, margin enhancement and commercial optimisation
Partner with business development and executive leadership teams on strategic pursuits, market expansion and client growth initiatives
Champion innovation in project delivery, digital enablement, operational reporting and continuous improvement
Maintain strong awareness of market trends, competitor activity and emerging delivery models across engineering, technical services and capital projects
Executive Leadership & Organisational Development
Lead, mentor and develop high‑performing project, programme and operational leadership teams across Ireland
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, governance discipline and delivery excellence
Provide strategic leadership to Project Managers, Account Directors and senior operational stakeholders
Drive leadership capability, succession planning and organisational scalability aligned to business growth objectives
Build effective stakeholder engagement and communication structures across complex multi‑site delivery environments
Operate as a credible executive leader capable of influencing senior client stakeholders, regulators and internal leadership teams
Commercial & Financial Leadership
Hold full P&L accountability for the Ireland Projects portfolio
Lead commercial strategy, budgeting, forecasting and financial performance management across the business unit
Drive EBITDA growth, margin optimisation and commercial governance across complex project delivery environments
Ensure effective management of project risk, procurement, change control, variations and contractual performance
Deliver executive‑level reporting across operational, financial and commercial performance metrics
Support strategic planning, investment prioritisation and long‑term business growth initiatives
Governance, Risk & Compliance
Champion a best‑in‑class safety and compliance culture across all project activities
Ensure compliance with Irish and UK legislation, regulatory frameworks, contractual obligations and corporate governance standards
Lead QHSE governance, auditing, risk management and continuous improvement initiatives across the portfolio
Establish robust programme governance and project controls frameworks using PMBOK and PRINCE2 disciplines while applying pragmatic Agile delivery principles
Ensure effective management of PSCS/CDM responsibilities and regulatory obligations where applicable
Drive operational consistency, governance maturity and delivery assurance across all projects and technical services activities
Strategic Leadership & Transformation
Represent ABM at executive customer engagements, industry forums and strategic partner discussions
Lead operational transformation and business improvement initiatives across Ireland projects operations
Support enterprise‑wide change management initiatives and scalable delivery models
Promote ABM’s strategic vision, operational excellence standards and long‑term growth objectives across all stakeholder groups
Skills & Experience
Executive Leadership Experience
Extensive senior leadership experience delivering complex capital projects, engineering programmes and technical services within regulated and mission‑critical environments
Proven track record managing €40m+ portfolios with accountability for delivery, governance, commercial performance and client outcomes
Significant experience operating across ROI & NI within complex stakeholder and regulatory environments
Strong commercial and strategic leadership capability with full P&L accountability and experience driving growth, margin performance and operational transformation
Demonstrated ability to lead high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary teams across large‑scale project delivery environments
Full clean driving licence with flexibility to travel across Ireland as required
Qualifications & Professional Credentials
Degree qualified in Engineering, Building Services, Construction Management, Project Management, Business or a related discipline
Professional certifications in Project, Programme or Operational Leadership highly desirable (PMP, PRINCE2, MSP, Agile or equivalent)
Chartered status desirable where applicable
IOSH/NEBOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification advantageous
Industry & Technical Experience
Proven experience delivering projects within Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Data Centre, Healthcare, Manufacturing or other regulated critical environments
Strong background leading complex M&E, infrastructure, lifecycle and technical services projects across multiple sectors
Experience establishing programme governance, project controls and delivery assurance frameworks while applying commercially pragmatic and delivery‑focused leadership approaches
Track record of leading business transformation, operational improvement and scalable delivery initiatives within high‑growth or evolving organisations
Experience managing executive‑level customer relationships, strategic accounts and complex stakeholder ecosystems
Strong understanding of commercial contracts, procurement strategy, risk management, change control and programme delivery governance
