Job Title:
Safety Professional
Responsibilities:
* Provide professional guidance to the project director and project stakeholders with the development, communication, and implementation of project health, safety, and wellbeing strategies and objectives.
* Inform and consult project team members on the implementation of both company-specific and project-specific health and safety policies and procedures to ensure that design and construction activities are managed safely and with minimal impact on the airport's functions and stakeholders.
* Support the development of safe systems of work, ensuring that effective risk reduction is considered during temporary and permanent works designs and construction activities.
* Collaborate with the Project Supervisor for the Design Process and Project Supervisor for the Construction Stage to ensure compliance with duties and responsibilities. Contribute to the preliminary Safety and Health Plan and develop the Safety and Health Plan for the construction stage.
* Promote a culture of health, safety, and wellbeing engagement across the project by implementing effective health and safety training and competency standards. Establish workforce consultation forums and systems and provide timely feedback on issues raised.
* Support research into innovative technologies and industry best practices that eliminate or reduce risk in collaboration with design and construction teams.
* Lead the project's Health & Safety Team and promote personal and professional development among team members.
* Prepare accurate health and safety reports on project performance and contribute data to company health and safety reports.
* Develop inspection and auditing systems and programmes, providing real-time reports on project performance, and cooperate with internal and external auditors.
* Assist in developing emergency plans and strategies and ensure there are enough competent appointed persons to manage emergency situations.
* Set an example by demonstrating unwavering commitment to health and safety as a primary personal value and enforce high expectations for others.
* Ensure all accidents and incidents are reported and investigated appropriately, and lessons learned are considered to prevent similar incidents from occurring, leading investigations where serious harm has or may have occurred.
* Establish processes for assessing the competence of the project supply chain – designers, suppliers, and contractors - ensuring contractors are aware of the health, safety, and wellbeing standards expected.
* Maintain a project health and safety training matrix, identify training needs, and develop 'inhouse' and externally provided training courses to meet project requirements.
* Nurture relationships with health and safety regulators, airport stakeholders, and recognised organisations regarding health and safety matters affecting the airport and its employees, public, and project staff.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
* Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner (CMIOSH).
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
