Staff Nurse (HDU) North Dublin Location: Leading Private Hospital North Dublin Contract: Full-Time, Permanent Department: High Dependency Unit (HDU) Reports to: CNM2 / Director of Nursing Salary: Competitive, aligned with private sector nursing scales + shift allowances About the Role To work in collaboration with the nursing team to ensure excellence in patient care through a well educated and highly motivated team of carers and the effective and efficient use of resources. Key Responsibilities Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to HDU patients requiring continuous monitoring and advanced nursing interventions. Manage complex patients on oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, invasive lines, and post-op recovery needs. Respond promptly to changes in patient conditions using advanced assessment skills. Administer medications safely, including IV therapies, blood products, and controlled drugs. Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) planning to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Maintain accurate, timely documentation in line with hospital and HIQA/Joint Commission standards. Operate and troubleshoot HDU equipment, e.g., monitors, pumps, cardiac telemetry, respiratory supports. Assist with invasive procedures and post-surgical management. Follow infection prevention and control (IPC/AMRIC) standards rigorously. Comply with all hospital policies, protocols, and clinical pathways. Contribute to audits, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives. Promote a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Professional Practice Maintain NMBI registration and engage in continuous CPD. Support junior nurses, students, and new staff through mentorship and guidance. Demonstrate strong communication, compassion, and patient advocacy. Requirements Essential Registered General Nurse (RGN) with active NMBI pin. Minimum 1 year acute hospital experience post-registration. Experience in HDU, ICU, PACU, ED, Isurgical wards, cardiac care, or other high-acuity settings. Strong clinical assessment, IV therapy, and critical monitoring skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. IT Skills is desirable A recognised I.T.U./C.C.U, cardiac telemetry or HDU Course is desirable but not essential Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification Desirable Post-graduate training in Critical Care, High Dependency, or Emergency Nursing.
