Responsibilities:
1. Work in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, legal requirements, NMBI standards, and professional guidelines.
2. Deliver comprehensive planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care from admission to discharge.
3. Complete accurate and timely nursing assessments, care plans, and all required documentation.
4. Communicate relevant patient information clearly to nursing, medical, and allied health staff.
5. Liaise and collaborate effectively with other departments while maintaining strong interpersonal communication.
6. Ensure all patient documentation is accurate, confidential, and completed using approved abbreviations in accordance with hospital policy.
7. Comply with medication policies, ensuring proper handling, safekeeping, and documentation of scheduled drugs.
8. Respond promptly, calmly, and effectively in emergency situations.
9. Provide care independently with minimal supervision and assume responsibility for the department in the absence of the CNM II.
10. Use sound judgement in patient care decisions, referring appropriately to the CNM II, medical staff, or other disciplines.
11. Follow established reporting and escalation pathways by consulting the CNM II first regarding concerns or issues.
12. Manage stock control to ensure adequate supplies are available at all times.
13. Support and mentor student nurses, newly appointed staff nurses, and healthcare assistants.
14. Contribute to best nursing practice by identifying recurring issues and supporting the implementation of evidence-based improvements.
15. Participate in hospital accreditation initiatives, including assisting with required data collection.
16. Deputise for CNMs as required, including planning and delegating staff workloads based on departmental needs.
17. Report all adverse incidents or concerns regarding patients or staff to the CNM/Director of Nursing and document them according to hospital policy.
18. Take part in the hospital's Performance Review and Development process.
19. Monitor and report issues that do not meet accepted standards, or could hinder efficient operations or negatively impact the hospital's reputation.
20. Maintain up-to-date personal education records and participate in continuing professional development.
21. Ensure efficient and responsible use of hospital resources at all times.
22. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Clinical Nurse Manager.
23. Complete High Dependency Unit (HDU) Competency Assessment.
