The Health Care Assistant's role is to provide assistance to Radiology Services to include such duties as transporting inpatients, transporting samples, assisting in the handling of patients and other duties as assigned so that patient flow in Radiology Services is optimal.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
* Transport inpatients from wards to Radiology Services so that patients are on time for their appointments.
* Collect patients from Radiology Services reception and bring them to the correct location for their examination ensuring that a high level of customer service is displayed to patients at all times.
* Ensure patients complete forms where required.
* Where required, assist patients to undress and get prepared for their examination.
* Inform staff at reception if there are service delays and inform patients if requested to do so.
* Assist Radiographers in lifting patients where required following manual handling guidelines.
* Deliver and collect samples from the Laboratory according to the correct procedures.
* Prepare drinks for patients who are attending for a CT examination.
* Any other duties as requested by the Head of Radiology or member of the Radiology Services.
* Adheres to internal controls established for the department.
* Performs related duties as required.
* Demonstrate a confidence and competence in all hospital policies and guidelines.
* A flexible approach is essential in terms of when work is carried out, what work is carried out and how it is to be carried out.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
* Completion of an approved course for Health Care Assistants FETAC Level 5 (all 8 Modules) or an equivalent nursing qualification.
Experience
* Previous work experience in a similar role in an acute hospital is desirable.
Job Specific Competencies and Knowledge
* An understanding of Radiology Services and the examinations carried out is desirable.
Personal Competencies
* Must have a strong customer service orientation and understand the concerns and anxieties of patients.
* Be able to liaise effectively with all levels of staff.
* Capable of taking direction and following instructions.
* Demonstrate an ability to prioritise work.
* All posts in Beacon Hospital require a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service. Therefore, the post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility as and when required by their manager or hospital management.
