Purpose of the Role
The CNS will be part of the multi-disciplinary team that delivers care to the children referred to the Spina Bifida / Lower Limb service.
The role of the CNS is to provide support for parents and children in this service.
Provide education and training to parents and children.
Be a resource for colleagues and allied professionals.
Be an advocate for the patient and ensure competence in the area of specialty practice.
Provide a programme of education and training for multidisciplinary staff which benefits children and their parents.
Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications and Experience
Be a registered nurse on the active Children’s Register of Nurses and Midwives held by An Bord Altranais and Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be eligible to be so registered.
Must have a minimum of five years post qualification experience, three of which must be recent experience within Children’s nursing.
Must have experience of delivering quality improvement in a healthcare environment.
Have proven clinical and managerial ability and leadership skills.
Have successfully completed a post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider which verifies that the applicant has achieved a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 9 or higher award (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above) that is relevant to the specialist area of care and in line with the requirements for specialist practice as set out by the National Council for Nursing and Midwifery 4th ed (2008). Alternatively provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 9 or higher standard (60 ECTS or above), relevant to the specialist area of care and in line with the requirements for specialist practice as set out by the National Council for Nursing and Midwipery 4th ed (2008).
