Specialist Surveillance Scientist
Naas General Hospital.
There is currently one permanent Medical Scientist, Specialist (Surveillance) vacancy available in the Laboratory in Naas General Hospital.
A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Naas General Hospital from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.
Specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may also be filled from this panel.

Purpose of the Post
1.The purpose of this role is to manage the collection, analysis and dissemination of all Healthcare Associated Infection data in Naas General Hospital and the surrounding community and other areas as appropriate.
2.Be involved in the Implementation of the Critical Care Surveillance Programme.
3.To fully implement all the requirements of the HIQA National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infection in the hospital.
4.To provide a link between the Pathology Laboratory, Public Health and the Health Protection Surveillance Centre in relation to the surveillance and reporting of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance via CIDR and EARS-Net
5.Be responsible for the development, co-ordination and implementation of quality processes within Pathology and for all documentation required for Surveillance of pathogens and antimicrobial resistance patterns on direction of the Laboratory Manager, HPSC and Consultant Microbiologist.
6.Participate fully as a member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team in the Hospital.
7.Co-ordinate the Surveillance Programme within the Hospital in conjunction with the IPCT – as required by HIQA.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must have at the latest date of application: -
1.Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
(a) Candidates for appointment must:
(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration as a Medical Scientist on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
OR
(ii)Applicants who satisfy the conditions set out in Section 91 of the Health and Social Care professionals Act ****, (see Note 1 Below*), must submit proof of application for the registration Board at CORU.
The acceptable proof is correspondence from the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU confirming their application for registration as a Section 91 applicant was received by the 30th of March ****.
AND
(iii) Possess a Masters Qualification (MSc) or equivalent (NFQ Level 9) postgraduate qualififcation on the National Framework of Qualififcations (NFQ) maintained by Quality and Qualififcations Ireland (QQI) in a Science related discipline, as relevant to the role.
Validated bt the academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine.
OR
(iv) An equivalent qualification at minimum Level 9 validated by the Academy of Clinical Science and laboratory Medicine (ACSLM)
OR
(v) Possess Fellowship of the Academy of Clinical Science and laboratory Medicine awarded before July ****.
OR
(vi) Have attained the Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science by examination or thesis (Awarded prior to ****)
AND
(vii) Possess four years full time clinical experience (or an aggregate of four years full time clinical experience) as a medical scientist in a clinical diagnostic laboratory since qualifying as a medical scientist.
AND
(viii) Demonstrate knowledge and experience in the appropriate specialist area.
AND
(ix) Demonstrate evidence of Continuous Professional Development relevant to the required area of specialism/role.
AND
(x) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
AND
(xi) Candidate must provide proof of statutory Registration on the medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
OR
For a section 91 candidate you must submit proof of application for registration see criterion 1a
(ii).
2. Annual Registration
(i)On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
AND
(ii)Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC)
4. Health
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
5. Character
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character
