Automation Engineer – Permanent Role | Bray, Co. Wicklow
We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join a leading global manufacturing organization based in Bray, Co. Wicklow. This is a full-time, permanent position offering the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a highly regulated GMP environment.
In this role, you will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) across Manufacturing Control Systems, Operational Technology, Machine Automation, and Digitalization, supporting automation performance and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee and optimize automation systems to ensure maximum uptime, reliability, and performance.
* Manage system access, perform backups/restores, and ensure data integrity.
* Implement corrective actions and collaborate closely with vendor technical teams.
* Identify and execute small to medium improvement projects to enhance system capability.
* Support capital planning, project execution, and documentation management.
* Ensure all activities align with GMP and Quality System standards.
* Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including test protocols and design deliverables.
* Contribute to standardization of automation strategies across manufacturing operations.
* Support the maintenance, upgrade, and optimization of automation infrastructure.
* Lead or participate in automation and digital transformation projects, ensuring delivery to cost, schedule, and quality targets.
* Stay up to date with emerging technologies, standards, and best practices in industrial automation.
Qualifications and Experience
* Degree in Automation, Robotics, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.
* Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment, ideally within pharma, biotech, or life sciences.
* Proven expertise in automation platforms such as Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi, or equivalent.
* Strong understanding of GAMP, 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11, and GxP requirements.
* Familiarity with ISA/ANSI automation standards is advantageous.
* Demonstrated problem-solving ability and experience in data-driven decision-making.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on compliance and quality.
* Fluent in written and spoken English.
