Innovation and Enterprise Office Commercialisation Specialist (Hardware/Software/Industrial Technologies) Two year fixed-term, fixed purpose, whole-time contract/part-time contract (MTU Kerry Campus) KT Boost Programme isco-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern & Midland Regional Programme 2021-2027. Overview: Munster Technological University (MTU) is a multi-campus Technological University, contributing to the region through the provision of academic programmes that support student development and opportunities, education and research. MTU has an extensive and impressive regional footprint with six campuses across the South-West region in Cork and Kerry, and a student body of 18,000.MTU spends approximately €30m on research annually with plans to increase to €35m by 2027. With this comes ambitious research commercialisation and spin out plans. MTU has secured funding through the Enterprise Ireland KT Boost Programme which isco-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern & Midland Regional Programme 2021-2027. MTU is recruiting a Commercialisation Specialist to expand the knowledge transfer capacity within MTU. The recruit will be joining a dynamic team of professionals focusing on innovation supports, knowledge transfer, incubation, staff and student startups and enterprise programmes for startups and SMEs in the region. The focus of the role is research commercialisation and technology transfer. Based out of the Innovation and Enterprise Office, the recruit will work with researchers and academics across MTU and external enterprises and non-commercial entities to support MTUs vision to empower individuals and enrich society through innovative use of knowledge. There will be the opportunity to work with exciting innovative startups/spinouts. There will be opportunities for continuous training and CPD and the successful candidate will be expected to work towards Recognised Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) accreditation. Reporting and location of position: On appointment, the successful candidate will report to the Innovation and Enterprise Manager or their delegate.Please note that the postholders will be required to attend any of MTUs six campuses regularly, as required. Duties and responsibilities of the position: Assessment of existing and potential portfolio of strategic research of commercial value Meet the Principal Investigators of the Research and Innovation Centres, Technology Gateways and Research Groups to establish relationships and begin evaluation of commercial potential of research activity. This will involve a review of currently active projects and a review of completed projects where appropriate. Commercialisation support for researchers Handle the Intellectual Property (IP) disclosure process in a professional and timely manner. Assist with technical assessment of technologies including literature searches and patent searches and where necessary identify external technical experts (including Enterprise Ireland) and engage where appropriate. Undertake commercial assessment of the technology including market research of the technology and the competing technologies. Identify alternative commercialisation models, resulting in a decision to proceed or terminate the Universitys further involvement with the technology. Monitor and manage active patents and work closely with the inventors and external patent agents to ensure all requirements to achieve a patent are met. Document and manage inventions, patent and IP legal agreements in MTUs Knowledge Transfer management system. Identification of potential industry partners to licence MTU technologies. Negotiate licences and technology transfer arrangements and manage ongoing communication with industry partners to facilitate the commercial negotiations for the inventor(s) and the University. Provide confidential one to one consultation for research staff with new ideas and inventions. Implement the MTU Spin Out process as appropriate including securing Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation funding. Working with researchers to identify commercial partners and funders. Support MTU Technology Gateways and the MTU research community in terms of meeting their innovation targets. Must be willing to travel to multiple MTU campus locations across Cork and Kerry. Contact Point Act as a contact point for the EI Innovation Vouchers Programme and process enquiries in an efficient and timely manner. Enhance awareness and knowledge level of commercialisation and Knowledge Transfer among the MTU research community Develop and arrange delivery of a planned commercialisation and IP awareness programme across MTU. Other duties Undertake other duties that might be assigned by the Innovation & Enterprise Manager or their delegate. Essential Criteria:? Experience in a post which indicates the potential of the applicant to perform the main duties of the post. Minimum Honours undergraduate degree in computing, electronic engineering, software development or a related discipline. Minimum five years relevant work experience. Highly skilled in MS Office, Office 365, TEAMS and Zoom. Project Management Experience. Excellent communication skills. ? Desirable Criteria: Post graduate degree in a relevant discipline and /or business administration or technology management. Experience of taking projects from initial invention disclosure to a granted patent, or a licence agreement or new company. Industry or academic experience of patenting and /or licensing. Strong negotiation skills. Ability to multitask, working both independently and in team situations. Experience of developing effective working relationships with a wide variety of individuals including the research community, industry, legal professionals, potential investors and national funding and development agencies. Ability to analyse and summarise technical information. Excellent presentation skills. Terms of Appointment: Salary Range:€82,475.00 - €99,231.00pa depending on qualifications and experience. Two year, fixed purpose, whole-time or part-time contract.
