AIR Sligo is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to excel in the field of automation. AIR Sligo has been providing custom-designed automation solutions to leading manufacturing companies globally since 2005 and has a proven track record of delivering innovative and flexible solutions.
A successful candidate will work on challenging, innovative projects within a highly technical and collaborative working group. As a Controls Engineer you will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of complex controls systems for automation equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Work within the wider engineering group to develop concepts and specifications for equipment from user requirement specifications.
Develop and debug machine control programs including PLC, HMI, robotics, motion control, vision, etc.
Involve in research, development, and implementation of new control technologies.
Coordinate and manage control elements of build and debugging of equipment.
Ensure completion of control aspects of projects within schedule and budget.
Liaise with customers on requirement specifications and project deliverables.
Develop relationships with suppliers for equipment/component procurement.
Design, commission, and ensure safety of control systems.
Provide guidance and direction to junior staff to help them realise designs and ensure customer end goals are achieved.
Develop machine documentation to meet EU standards.
Meet project deliverables and deadlines.
Key Qualifications
Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline.
Minimum 5 years relevant experience working on the creation of machine control systems.
Ability to program AB Control Logix and Siemens S7.
Familiarity with configuring, commissioning, and debugging common machine networks and drive systems.
Experience with machine vision (Cognex, Keyence).
Strong interest in engineering technology and staying informed about cutting‑edge automation technologies.
Excellent communication skills for effective interaction on job specifications, technical direction, and daily issues.
Self‑starter with meticulous attention to detail, willing to take ownership and responsibility to realise project milestones and timelines.
Proven track record in delivering solutions.
Current driving licence and ability to travel as required.
