We process over 220,000t of residual waste each year and produce electricity to the equivalent of 22,000 homes annually.The Health & Safety Specialist role is responsible for the overseeing EH&S standards of working within the Municipal Solid Waste business. They must ensure that all activities are managed in compliance with legislation and that the OHSAS 18001(ISO 45001) and ISO 14001 certification is maintained. They must lead and promote our safety culture throughout the region and work with International Safety to align to common safety standards. This role will work with the existing EHS team in order to champion and drive the EHS policies.This position is an 18 month Fixed-Term Contract.Role & ResponsibilitiesEstablishing the foundations to set the desired attitudes by working with colleagues to maintain/improve H&S-related documents (policies, risk assessments, procedures, manuals, statements, checklists, etc.) and tools such as our Incident and action items databases, toolbox talks, training, etc.)Regular site visits on site to exhibit and encourage the desired H&S attitude and a pragmatic approach to problem solving.Management of site plans, training and awareness campaigns, monthly safety bulletins, safety alerts, toolbox talks, etc. within the safety management system and in conjunction with the H&S manager.Preparation of H&S reports and feedback as required by regulatory authorities and insurers (e.g. incident reports)Emergency Response Team (ERT) readiness, equipment operability, emergency-related contact details, required reporting, etc.Ensure thorough investigation of the circumstances and causes of all significant incidents, reportable accidents, dangerous occurrences and major property damage is carried out by the relevant Line Managers to determine the root cause to prevent recurrence. Assist in investigation if required.To assist in the identification of H&S training needs for employees and to develop and ensure delivery of training (e.g. manual handling, ERT).Training / assisting managers and supervisors at all sites in carrying out Risk Assessments to ensure a safe environment and approach for Indaver personnel and contractors, coupled with regular spot checks to ensure they are up to date and list all applicable controls.Experience and Qualifications RequiredDiploma or higher in Safety, Health & Welfare at WorkAt least 2 years’ experience in a role (where H&S is a key tenet of that role) preferably in chemical, pharmaceutical or waste industryProven record demonstrating the ability to develop, maintain and execute H&S-related controls such as documents (policies, risk assessments, procedures, manuals, checklists, etc.) and tools (10-Force, toolbox talks, training, regional safety plans, attendance systems, etc.)Experience of dealing with a range of teams (process, production, maintenance, QESH) to get the best result (and promoting practical solutions to problems)Technical knowledge of specific H&S areas such as confined space, permit to work, pressurised systems, lock out/tag out, excavations, electrical systems, working at height.Knowledge of management system standards such as OHSAS 18001(ISO 45001), ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.Knowledge of EPA licensed facilities and the tasks involved in complying with such licenses.Good computer skills (Both MS-OFFICE and H&S-specific applications)Must be eligible to work in the EU.
