The Director of R&D plays a pivotal role in leading and coordinating international research and development projects. This position focuses on supporting and managing a diverse team to ensure the successful delivery of global initiatives. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of technical innovation and cross-functional collaboration while aligning R&D activities with strategic business goals.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and coordinate international R&D projects, ensuring alignment with global business objectives, project milestones, and timelines.Provide strategic and operational leadership to the R&D team, acting as a key partner in delivering the R&D vision.Structure and resource the R&D team effectively to develop technologies that support business success across multiple regions.Develop and promote a culture of technical innovation, first-principles engineering, and knowledge leadership within the field.Maintain effective communication with management and engineering teams globally.Work closely with strategic marketing and commercial functions to define patient and user needs on an international scale.Direct the company’s innovation and knowledge capabilities toward creating technological and commercial value for the business.Proactively manage technical project risks and implement mitigation measures for complex, multinational projects.Support cross-functional business processes, including strategic planning, complaint investigations, review of invention disclosures, review of business‑critical documents, and structured problem‑solving.Demonstrate strong working knowledge of ISO 13485 quality management systems, including readiness for internal and external audits, and actively support the Quality department in preparing for and successfully completing future audits.Skills and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, or Materials Engineering; an advanced degree is preferred.At least 10 years of experience in the medical device industry in management and leadership roles, with a strong background in areas such as structural heart, electrophysiology, neurovascular, or peripheral vascular intervention.Proven ability to manage international projects, support executive leadership, and translate strategic vision into actionable project plans.Strong understanding of team dynamics, with experience building and leading cross-cultural, globally distributed teams that deliver results.Contributes positively to a respectful, supportive, goal-oriented, scientific, and diverse culture.Excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across different regions.Experience developing medical devices that require complex processes and assembly techniques, with a proven ability to deliver results in this environment.
