Job Title: Activities Coordinator
Reports to: Person in Charge (PIC) / Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM)
Department: Social Care / Activities
Hours: As per contract (Rostered over 7 days to ensure weekend activity provision)

1. Role Purpose
To lead the delivery of a person-centred social programme that enhances the quality of life, dignity, and wellbeing of residents.
The Coordinator will create a vibrant environment that prevents social isolation, adhering to the ethos of
"Nurturing Hearts, Enriching Lives"
and ensuring compliance with HIQA Regulation 9 (Residents' Rights).
2. Key Duties and Responsibilities
A. Activity Planning & Facilitation
Programme Delivery: Plan and lead a varied weekly schedule of activities (mornings and afternoons) tailored to residents' interests, including arts & crafts, baking, music, and light exercise1.
Therapeutic Focus: Deliver or assist with specific therapies outlined in the Statement of Purpose, such as SONAS(sensory stimulation for dementia), Music Therapy, and CARU Reflections****.
Dementia Care: Adapt activities for residents with cognitive impairment, ensuring those unable to participate in large groups receive one-to-one social interaction (e.g., reading, hand massage, conversation)3.
Community Links: Act as a link with the local Abbeyknockmoy and Tuam community to organise visits from schools, musicians, and volunteers4.
B. Resident Assessment & Documentation
Life Stories: Complete "Key to Me" and "Life Story" assessments for all residents to identify their past hobbies, interests, and preferences.
Care Planning: Provide input into the social care section of the Resident's Care Plan, ensuring it reflects their changing needs and preferences5.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate daily records of resident participation and engagement levels to demonstrate compliance for HIQA inspections.
C. Advocacy & Rights
Resident Voice: Facilitate the monthly Resident Committee meetings and quarterly Resident Forums, ensuring minutes are taken and feedback is fed back to management****.
Choice: Respect a resident's right to refuse activities and ensure alternatives are offered, preventing boredom or isolation7.
Religious Support: Assist in the preparation of the Oratory for Mass and Holy Hours, ensuring residents can practice their faith freely****.
D. Operational
Environment: Ensure the
Abbey Lounge
and
Lisheen Lounge
are kept tidy, safe, and set up appropriately for scheduled events9.
Budgeting: Manage resources for arts and crafts, parties, and events efficiently.
Safety: Conduct risk assessments for activities and outings to ensure the safety of all participants.
3. Person Specification

A good standard of general education.
Willingness to undertake training (e.g., Dementia Care, QQI Level 5).
QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support (or working towards it).
Training in SONAS or similar therapies.
Experience
Proven experience working with older people (professionally or voluntarily).
Experience organising events, groups, or social programmes.
Previous experience in a Nursing Home environment.
Experience working with dementia.
Skills
Excellent communication skills (fluent English).
Ability to motivate and energize a group.
Basic computer skills (for documentation).
Musical, artistic, or baking talents.
Full clean driving license.

4. Terms & Conditions
Garda Vetting: This post is strictly subject to successful Garda Vetting clearance.
Probation: A standard probationary period applies.
Training: The Nursing Home will support the successful candidate with mandatory training (e.g., Safeguarding, Fire Safety, Infection Control).

Pay: Up to €***** per hour
