Description
We are looking for an exceptional Network Development Engineer (NDE) to join us to define and build the next generation of the AWS Direct Connect service. This position will design and inventing the future of the network underlying our AWS Direct Connect service.
First, a Bit Of Background
Amazon Web Services (AWS) offers a broad set of global compute, storage, database, analytics, application, and networking services that help organizations move faster, lower IT costs, and scale applications. Our services are trusted by the largest enterprises and the hottest startups to power a wide variety of workloads.
The AWS Direct Connect team delivers solutions that make it easy for customers to establish a dedicated network connection from their premises to the AWS cloud. These connections help to reduce network costs, increase bandwidth throughput, and provide a more consistent network experience than Internet-based connections. Direct Connect is currently available in more than 60 locations located in 22 countries.
For this role, we are seeking a Network Development Engineer to work in our Direct Connect Network Engineering organization. This team is responsible for designing all aspects of the global network fabric for the AWS Direct Connect service. Engineers in this organization define the platforms, topologies, routing architectures and software control systems for these networks. Engineers on this team make day-to-day and strategic decisions that carry a huge amount of responsibility and impact. If you’re up the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
We are inventing the networks of the future so our engineers require a deep background in network hardware, routing protocols and designing large scale networks. The ideal candidate for this team would have a knowledge of ASICs, optics and router system design as well as extensive experience designing and implementing routings protocols such BGP and OSPF. We’re interested in engineers with experience having designed, operated, and implemented networks of large scale. We’re looking for those who have pushed platforms and protocols to their limits.
In addition to fundamental Networking skills our engineers must have Linux experience and background in network automation. SDN is a reality at Amazon and our networks are designed to be fully managed and operated via software systems. Some proficiency in programming is required.
Key job responsibilities
Network Development Engineers design, build, and maintain our high quality network to meet our high bar of scale, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
* Design and implement our network infrastructure
* Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, platforms, performance, and configurations issues; including necessary low level application interaction, Unix systems, and new age networking software tools.
* Maintain standards across the networking toolset and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies.
* Deliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes.
* Create and review documentation and process regarding network implementation/deployments, recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.
A day in the life
A Network Development Engineer in AWS Direct Connect own the architecture to create a highly scalable and reliable global network. They
work closely with our product team to help define the customer experience of Direct Connect and other AWS network related products. On a given day, our engineers may be defining our routing policies in support of a new feature, testing changes before we release them to production, diving deep to understand an issue in our network, or proposing new ideas to make our network more reliable or easier to manage.
