Title and Summary
Senior Site Reliability Engineer (Data Protection) – level 7. The role is within Mastercard’s enterprise storage team, focusing on the Commvault backup suite, CHEF automation, AI implementation, and backup storage technologies from VAST Data, NetApp, Oracle ZFS, and Dell/EMC Data Domain.
Responsibilities
Represent the enterprise storage team in project meetings and provide advice, status updates, training, and technical support.
Work with customers to understand monitoring and automation requirements and implement solutions using available tool sets and scripting languages.
Administer, support, and maintain enterprise monitoring tools in a multi‑tier storage environment.
Build automation solutions using tool sets and scripting languages such as Ansible, Bitbucket, CHEF, and Jenkins.
Maintain design and support documents for all built solutions and processes.
Troubleshoot networking, Unix/Linux systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational problems using Linux and UNIX command line tools.
Learn rapidly about emerging technologies and resolve integration problems.
Maintain a broad knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art technology, equipment, and systems.
Support business disaster recovery procedures for assigned areas of responsibility.
Accurately document duties and procedures to aid the department in cross‑training and absentee coverage.
Work with technical engineering teams to manage and improve processes.
Identify tasks that should be automated and develop and implement automation solutions.
Qualifications
Advanced experience with the Commvault data protection suite.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
Strong people skills and the ability to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
Excellent verbal and written skills, organization, project prioritization, and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under pressure without direct supervision.
Ability to manage multiple activities with a strong sense of urgency.
Motivation to learn new technologies quickly with minimal support.
Networking experience from basics to advanced, along with security knowledge.
Proficient in scripting or programming languages such as CHEF, Ansible, Python, and Bash.
Experience with enterprise systems management/monitoring tools such as Grafana and Prometheus.
3rd line out‑of‑hours operational support experience.
Advanced user level expertise in UNIX/Linux, Windows operating systems, and Oracle ZFS, Data Domain, VAST Data, and NetApp storage.
Experience with SAN storage arrays such as HPE and NetApp, and Brocade Fiber Channel switching.
