On behalf of our client, we are recruiting for an experienced Accounts Assistant / Senior Bookkeeper to join their growing team. This role is ideal for a highly organised finance professional with strong Irish and UK bookkeeping experience, excellent attention to detail, and proven capability managing end-to-end accounting processes in a busy office environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting company finance operations while contributing to the ongoing development of internal systems and controls. About the Role This is a hands-on bookkeeping and finance administration role with added responsibility for supporting departmental operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance across both Irish and UK entities. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can work independently, take ownership of tasks, and contribute to continuous improvement across the finance function. Key Responsibilities Core Bookkeeping & Finance Operations Process payments, invoices, receipts, and enter data into Sage 50; maintain organised hard and soft copy records. Prepare monthly financial statements including cash flow, profit & loss, and balance sheet reconciliations. Manage vendor payments, track bank balances, and perform full bank reconciliations. Reconcile supplier statements and resolve any variances. Complete VAT, ARTD, Intrastat, and RCT returns in Ireland. Complete UK VAT returns and maintain compliance with HMRC. Process employee wages for both Ireland and the UK, including pension contributions and PAYE submissions to Revenue and HMRC. Manage company expense claims. Assist external accountants with year-end accounts preparation. Prepare required business surveys and regulatory submissions for Irish and UK government bodies. Departmental Support & Oversight Support the development, documentation, and enforcement of departmental processes and organisational policies. Provide administrative and financial support for procurement, purchasing control, and internal reporting. Assist with internal audits and contribute to the refinement of internal controls. Work closely with management to drive strategic finance initiatives as required. Contribute to continuous improvement in accounting systems, workflows, and compliance processes. Skills and Experience Essential Minimum 5 years experience in bookkeeping or senior accounts administration (Irish & UK experience required). Strong proficiency in Sage 50. Excellent understanding of Irish and UK VAT, payroll, and regulatory reporting requirements. Experience preparing monthly financial statements and reconciliations. Strong MS Excel skills and proficiency across the full MS Office Suite. Exceptional attention to detail, organisation, and time management. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities. Strong communication skills with excellent written and spoken English. Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment. Desirable Experience using expenses platforms. Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline. Experience coordinating departmental activities or supporting leadership-level processes. Experience working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
