Job Title: Building Services Design Engineer
Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Mechanical Engineering professional to join our Dublin-based team. As a Building Services Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, optimisation, and delivery of high-performance mechanical building services systems across various commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.
Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed mechanical building services designs, including HVAC, ventilation, hydronic systems, public health services, and specialist mechanical plant in accordance with relevant standards and best practice.
- Produce design calculations using recognised engineering tools covering airflow, heat load, psychrometrics, pressure drops, pipe and duct sizing, and system performance modelling.
- Prepare coordinated technical drawings, schematics, schedules, and specifications in collaboration with BIM and CAD teams.
- Assist in the development of energy-efficient and sustainable design strategies, optimising system layouts and equipment selections to meet project performance goals.
- Review design information, identify risks or coordination challenges, and propose engineering solutions to ensure buildability and compliance.
- Participate in design team meetings, technical workshops, and coordination sessions with architects, structural engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Support the tender and procurement process by preparing technical submissions, evaluating mechanical equipment proposals, and reviewing supplier documentation.
- Carry out site visits to verify design intent, review installations, and support commissioning activities when required.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in mechanical or building services design within a consultancy, contractor, or design-build environment (essential).
- Strong technical understanding of HVAC engineering, including airflow, ventilation principles, cooling/heating loads, psychrometrics, and system controls.
- Proficient in producing calculations, system sizing, and performance assessments using industry-standard design software (e.g., Hevacomp, IES, HAP, or similar).
- Ability to interpret and develop technical drawings, schematics, BIM models, and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of Irish, UK, and European building regulations, standards, and guidelines related to mechanical services.
- Competent in reviewing equipment selections, performance data, and supplier technical submissions.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency with digital tools including Excel, design software, and project coordination applications.
- Degree or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline (preferred).
