Our client is currently recruiting Senior and Staff grade Occupational Therapists to join a dynamic and multidisciplinary team supporting children and young people (0–18 years) with complex developmental needs.
This post offers a rewarding opportunity to work with families in Limerick, providing tailored interventions across a range of environments including clinics, homes, preschools, schools, and the wider community.
This role combines direct clinical support with leadership responsibilities. The successful candidate will actively contribute to the delivery, development, and evaluation of services using a child- and family-focused model.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Family Engagement
* Deliver thorough assessments and therapeutic input for children with varying developmental and physical challenges.
* Work closely with families and caregivers to agree on individualised goals and coordinated care plans.
* Fulfil the role of key worker where required and engage in collaborative assessments with team colleagues.
* Provide support across a range of settings based on the child’s and family’s needs.
* Supervise junior staff and therapy assistants while promoting high standards of care.
* Maintain all documentation in line with GDPR and professional regulatory requirements.
Safety & Risk Management
* Identify safety concerns in therapy and service environments and contribute to mitigation planning.
* Ensure proper and safe use of therapeutic equipment; report issues in a timely manner.
* Follow infection control and health and safety procedures in all aspects of clinical delivery.
* Stay up to date with relevant safety guidelines, legislation, and workplace policies.
* Provide mentorship and guidance to team members and act as a role model in practice.
* Support service planning and improvement initiatives in collaboration with team leads.
* Promote a culture of professional growth and reflective practice within the team.
* Assist in shaping service policy and long-term planning alongside the Network Manager.
* Contribute to recruitment, staff orientation, and service evaluations.
Education & Professional Development
* Facilitate educational sessions for families, school staff, and allied health professionals.
* Take a leading role in supervising Occupational Therapy students during placements.
* Engage in supervision, reflective practice, and CPD to maintain professional excellence.
* Support quality assurance processes and engage in research or service audits.
* Operate as an integral member of the Children’s Disability Network Team.
* Take part in interdisciplinary team meetings, planning sessions, and joint interventions.
* Foster effective communication and shared goal setting with other agencies.
* Encourage cohesive teamwork and shared responsibility for child and family outcomes.
* Promote inclusive and person-centred planning in partnership with families and stakeholders.
Communication & Stakeholder Relations
* Establish positive, respectful relationships with children, families, carers, and professional partners.
* Share clinical findings and progress in a clear, accessible manner.
* Represent the service in external meetings, advocating for children’s developmental needs.
* Ensure data protection standards are consistently upheld.
Skills & Personal Attributes
* Strong clinical judgment with paediatric and developmental knowledge.
* Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
* Self-motivated and able to manage a varied workload independently.
* Proven leadership ability and mentoring experience.
* Skilled in planning, time management, and service coordination.
* Committed to continuous learning and professional growth.
Qualifications & Experience (Essential)
* Professional qualification in Occupational Therapy, recognised by CORU.
* Registered with CORU as an Occupational Therapist.
* At least 3 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in paediatrics or disability services.
* Background in collaborative interdisciplinary work.
* Experience in supervising students or support staff.
* Full driving licence and access to transport.
* Documented CPD relevant to this client group.
* Previous work in children’s disability networks or early intervention services.
* Experience delivering workshops or training sessions to non-clinical audiences.
* Postgraduate training in paediatrics or neurodevelopmental conditions.
* Involvement in interagency working groups or strategic planning teams.
