Position Details Paraeducator – MoCI Classroom ASSIGNMENT: Classroom for Moderately Cognitively Impaired LOCATION: Clare-Gladwin Area School REPORTS TO: Classroom Teacher and Principal WAGES: According to the MEA Contract Starting wage: $***** per hour, or higher, based on actual years of experience.
SCHEDULE: School-year position following the district calendar Days: Monday – Friday Hours: 8:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
STARTING DATE : As soon as possible JOB OBJECTIVE: The Paraeducator is responsible for assisting teachers, Itinerant staff and others in the support of instructional, health related, recreation and/or pre-vocational job training activities.
The Paraeducator may be assigned to one classroom or to a variety of assignments depending on the needs of the students.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of training techniques, behavior modification, and task analysis.
Ability to exercise sound judgment when addressing challenges pending supervisory assistance.
Strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with students, parents, community members, and colleagues.
Ability to understand and work with children of all ages.
Cooperative and effective oral and written communication skills, including active listening.
