Due to continued expansion and ongoing major project wins, we are seeking a Structural Engineer with secondary steel design experience to join their growing engineering team.
About the Role
This position reports to the Group Engineering Director and plays a key role in supporting project delivery from design stage through to handover. You will be responsible for the design and development of secondary steel solutions for MEP services, supporting both small and large-scale construction projects.This role is primarily based in Cork with travel to sites as required. Due to the international nature of the business, occasional rotation on European projects is expected.
Key Responsibilities
Liaise with project managers to ensure proposed support systems meet regulatory and project requirements.
Carry out and review preliminary designs for secondary steelwork, support systems, fixings, and service hangers.
Assess loads on primary structures and verify structural capacity for added works.
Produce temporary works design for services installations in collaboration with site and third-party designers.
Coordinate with safety and project supervision teams to ensure compliance in design.
Prepare and package design documentation for internal and external design checks.
Assist in defining and verifying subcontractor design responsibilities.
Review construction drawings and prioritise design information aligned with build sequences.
Attend project meetings and issue monthly design reports.
Ensure all close-out documentation is delivered in line with project requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
• Degree-qualified in Structural Engineering (or equivalent).• Minimum 3+ years' Structural Design experience.• Strong background in secondary steel design for MEP services, steelwork, modular, or prefabrication environments.• Knowledge of structural calculations, load capacity, and detailing.• Familiarity with temporary works design is advantageous.• Strong IT and mathematical skills, with experience using design software and load capacity sources.• Understanding of site feasibility considerations and technical investigations.
