Job Role: Production Manager Reporting To: Manufacturing Manager Location: Station Rd, Tipperary Business Sector: Ingredients-Manufacturing Overview: The Production Manager plays a pivotal role in the business operations, working with Shift Production Managers to drive a self-directed team culture to consistently deliver the department's Key Performance Indicators (KPI) including EHS, Quality, Delivery, Cost (OEE Productivity), People (engagement, absenteeism).
Responsible for ensuring the effective management and development of staff, including timely feedback on performance, and adherence to Arrabawn Tipperary Co-operative policies and procedures.
Reports to Manufacturing Manager.
Responsible for: The Production Manager will have responsibility for all processing activities associated with Dryer 2 which includes evaporation, ingredients kitchen and bagging operations.
They will be responsible for ensuring processes are completed safely, in accordance with the required quality standards and within agreed program dates.
They will build engagement and cooperation of their team to influence the behaviours that align with company values.
The Production Manager will maximise manufacturing output, drive continuous improvement and improve efficiency.
Relationships: Manufacturing Manager, Shift Production Managers, Quality, Human Resources, Health Safety, Engineering, Maintenance, Dispatch and Environment teams,.
Detailed Responsibilities: Production Packing
a) Lead and manage the day-to-day running of Dryer 2 associated Evaporator, and bagging plant, ingredients make-up and associated plant.
b) Maintain a high level of presence in the production areas, undertaking a daily Process Walk to verify the process is in control and identify opportunities for improvement.
c) Build and maintain strong working relationships with the site's Senior Management team, taking an active interest in supporting Shift Managers to deliver results.
Encouraging employee engagement, actively promoting continuous improvement, skill and knowledge to help them reach their full potential.
d) Determines appropriate staff levels, schedules and resources.
Optimize the Weekly Production Plan; along with Planning schedule, ensuring all raw material requirements, maximise run lengths, minimize change overs, incorporate up to date run rates and ensure on schedule output.
e) Continuously review and integrate production, maintenance and raw materials activities so that a cohesive outcome-focused business unit emerges, delivering performance and efficiency to the business and other business units and department
f) Develop effective working relationships with the Quality, Maintenance, Technical Services, working with them to develop strong underpinning knowledge on site products and processes.
g) Manage, organise and continuously improve the performance of the area operations through relentless application of continuous improvement manufacturing principles so that a lean operation develops
h) Apply a structured approach to resolving the key H S, Quality and Productivity problems within Production, Bagging and Storage Depts through the effective use of lean tools including 5 whys, A3 problem solving and DMAICs and pulling in support from QA Maintenance as required in cross functional teams.
i) Identify and react to capacity constraints through capacity constraint modelling.
Alleviate constraints by strategically identifying initiatives, projects and systems that can be applied People
a) Ensure there is role clarity across Production and that all members understand their roles, responsibilities, accountabilities and expectations for themselves and their team, and that the whole Team is motivated to succeed.
b) Set objectives for direct reports and ensure that these are then cascaded through the team.
Hold regular one to one meetings to review progress and agree next steps
c) Aid in development of the Shift Production Managers through effective coaching and development plans supported by structured processes including regular one-to-one meetings and a formal performance review process.
Ensure this is cascaded through their respective teams.
d) Conduct training needs analysis to identify gaps and opportunities for employee development.
e) Challenge individuals who do not follow company procedures.
Respond appropriately in accordance with Company procedures to any employee who raises a complaint or grievance.
f) Ensure all shift Operators have received effective and formal training appropriate for the role.
Communication
a) Communicate directly and appropriately with Operations, Quality, Health Safety Environment and Maintenance teams.
Quality
a) Ensure your area of responsibility is audit ready 24 X 7
b) Drive improvements in quality systems and foster a right-first-time approach within the production department.
Monitor product code specifications to ensure good quality is consistently achieved.
c) Ensure that all food safety and CCP procedures are observed and report any issues that may constitute a hygiene or safety risk.
Ensure that all the production documentation is completed in accordance with Quality Standards.
d) Liaise with the Technical and Quality departments so that new products and processes are transferred in a fast and professional manner
e) Work in conjunction with Quality to ensure Product Quality and compliance with the Quality system at all times.
Health, Safety Hygiene
a) Promote and support the development of an effective and pro-active safety culture on site with the whole team working to work to identifying and eliminate hazards.
b) Proactively support the on-going development of safety through effective leading KPIs
c) Develop a safety-first culture within the business unit operations.
Progressively make the work environment safer through Risk assessments, hazard registers and elimination of hazards in the workplace.
Work relentlessly to fix safety risks and manage all accidents and near misses Environmental Sustainability
a) Ensure all Production Operatives are fully aware of site environmental standards and ensure production processes operate in accordance with the requirements of ISO and the site operating licence.
b) Report and investigate any out of spec.
environmental results Experience Required:
a) Degree or post-graduate qualification Business / Science / Technical discipline with a preference in Food sciences or engineering and/or
b) Experience in a production role in a food processing environment including previous experience as a team leader/shift manager or equivalent with proven leadership skills.
c) Possess a broad in-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and systems and has demonstrated the ability to specify appropriately.
d) Experience in separation, evaporation, spray drying and butter would be advantageous.
