Special Needs Teacher / Tutor

Special Tutor for Autistic 19 year old student.
We are looking for a person with a strong passion for Special Needs Education, has loads of energy & empathy and has a commitment to fostering a love of lifelong learning in the student.
Role – The Student – Background
Work in a one-to-one teaching environment with a special student, who has a diagnosis of a rare disorder called Fragile X syndrome. Also has a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.
A Verbal and interested person with a mid – moderate IQ. Preservates on a topic, interested in history, fitness, cartoon characters, likes art, museums singing / performance.
This role involves developing a curriculum based on the interest of that week.
All activities require 1:1 support always. Curriculum is reinforced by topical CANVA posters, making art of the topic being studied and visits to places related to the topic being studied.
Her pastimes are playing basketball, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, horse riding, boxing and being involved with her local GAA team. The chosen candidate will be involved in bringing her to these activities and participating if necessary to aid the activity provider.
Responsibilities
1. Plan and organise daily activities / curriculum for the student to deliver 4 hours actual learning time punctuated by 4 hours managed rest time / down time / exercise time
2. Curriculum to cover as follows Art project based on content
3. Managing the student with some challenging behaviours
4. Upkeep the aerobic fitness of the student to include activities – including swimming, cycling, hill walking, boxing etc. This is part of the PE element of the curriculum.
5. Creation / categorisation of a library of relevant books to the content covered
6. Creation of a library of relevant films to the content covered
7. Create new areas of interest / learning at tutors' discretion
Skills Required
1. Proven track record working in education - special needs teacher/tutor with a Bachelor's Degree in Education/PME/Higher Diploma in Education and a native English speaker.
2. Strong passion for the arts, education, fitness and food
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
4. Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment, the include CNDT/ HSE/ Other tutors
5. Periodic presentation to friends and family of content covered / art made
6. Garda vetted or equivalent with full clean driving licence.
NOTE
4 hours per day in a block session which will be spread over any of the 7 days in South Dublin(Stillorgan/Kilmacud) depending on what suits you
Salary: Teacher's salary scale plus mileage allowance depending on ones experience and suitability for the role.
