Join to apply for the Mechanical Debug Engineer role at KAON Automation.
KAON Automation has been providing custom‑designed automation solutions to leading manufacturing companies globally since 2005, and we have a proven track record of delivering innovative and flexible solutions.
A successful candidate will be the critical link between design and operational success, taking responsibility for getting automated equipment commissioned, debugged, and performing to specification. This is a hands‑on technical role requiring strong problem‑solving abilities, coordination skills, and a deep understanding of automated systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Take ownership of automated equipment during the build, debug, and commissioning phases to ensure machines meet performance specifications.
* Conduct systematic troubleshooting to identify root causes of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and control system issues.
* Coordinate and prioritize debug activities across multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, controls) to achieve project milestones.
* Make pragmatic engineering decisions to balance immediate operational needs with long‑term solutions.
* Develop and manage comprehensive snag lists, tracking issues from identification through resolution.
* Coordinate activities of electricians, programmers, and technicians working on equipment.
* Work closely with controls engineers to understand machine logic and control systems without necessarily programming yourself.
* Determine the critical path for machine functionality and prioritize work accordingly.
* Liaise with design engineers to communicate issues and provide feedback for design improvements.
* Demonstrate strong understanding of mechatronic systems including servo systems, robotics, pneumatics, sensors, and machine control architectures.
* Ask the right technical questions to gather information and understand problems from specialists in other disciplines.
* Think systematically about how individual component issues affect overall machine performance and project goals.
* Propose practical solutions and workarounds that keep projects moving forward.
* Document technical issues, solutions, and lessons learned.
* Ensure customer end goals are being achieved throughout the commissioning process.
* Communicate project status, technical challenges, and timeline impacts to project stakeholders.
* Support installation and commissioning activities at customer sites as required.
Key Requirements
Education & Experience
* Relevant engineering degree (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Manufacturing, or similar) or equivalent technical qualification combined with demonstrated hands‑on experience in automation.
* Minimum 3‑4 years relevant experience in automation environments, including:
o Hands‑on commissioning and debug of automated equipment, or
o Introduction and implementation of automation projects in manufacturing environments, or
o Design engineering role with significant involvement in machine build and commissioning phases.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
* Strong practical understanding of automated equipment including mechanisms, servo systems, pneumatics, robotics, and sensors.
* Working knowledge of machine control systems, PLCs, and industrial networks (programming ability not required but beneficial).
* Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and pneumatic diagrams.
* Familiarity with 3D CAD applications (e.g., SolidWorks) beneficial but not essential.
* Basic understanding of machine safety standards and risk assessment principles.
Personal Attributes & Competencies
* Exceptional problem‑solving ability—methodical, analytical approach to troubleshooting complex technical issues.
* Quick learner—able to rapidly understand new technologies, systems, and processes.
* Self‑starter with strong ownership mentality—takes initiative without waiting to be directed.
* Excellent coordination skills—able to manage multiple activities and prioritize effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
* Strong communication skills—extract technical information from specialists and explain issues clearly to diverse stakeholders.
* Pragmatic decision‑maker—balances ideal solutions with practical constraints and timelines.
* Hands‑on mentality—comfortable working on the shop floor and getting hands‑on when needed.
* Detail‑oriented—recognizes that small issues can have large downstream impacts.
Additional Requirements
* Current driving licence and ability to travel to customer sites as required.
* Flexibility to work outside normal hours when commissioning deadlines require it.
* Physically able to work around machinery and in industrial environments.
Salary and Benefits
* Competitive salary package.
* Pension scheme.
* Training and development opportunities.
* Exposure to cutting‑edge automation technology and challenging projects.
Seniority Level
