Medical Scientist Purpose of the Role To deliver a high-quality laboratory service supporting patient care within a multidisciplinary setting.
The Medical Scientist will work collaboratively with the Laboratory Manager, Chief Medical Scientist, and clinical teams to ensure accurate, timely, and safe diagnostic testing.
Key Responsibilities Scientific / Professional Perform analytical testing in a multidisciplinary laboratory in accordance with ISO ***** and internal SOPs.
Ensure accuracy and reliability in the receipt, processing, analysis, and reporting of specimens.
Participate in quality management, internal/external quality control, and continuous service improvement.
Liaise with healthcare professionals to support clinical decision-making.
Assist in research, development, and the introduction of new techniques or technologies.
Health & Safety Adhere to all health, safety, and infection control procedures.
Identify and report risks, incidents, or equipment faults promptly.
Promote safe laboratory practices and compliance with HIQA standards.
Education & Training Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge and participate in mandatory and specialist training.
Contribute to the training and supervision of students or new staff.
Engage in continuing professional development (CPD) and performance review.
Administration Maintain accurate records, participate in stock management, and ensure efficient use of resources.
Support data management and reporting using laboratory information systems (LIS).
Promote a culture of teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience CORU Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Medical Scientists Registration Board.
Demonstrated experience across Haematology, Blood Transfusion, and Biochemistry.
Proven knowledge of laboratory quality systems, safety standards, and IT systems.
Strong organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently, including participation in an on-call rota.
Contract: Minimum 6-month full-time position.
Salary: €60,000-€70,000+ per annum, depending on experience and grade.
