Clinical Nurse Manager II Day Ward
The role of Clinical Nurse Manager II is pivotal in service planning, coordination and management of activities and resources within the clinical area. This senior position has a key responsibility in ensuring the delivery of quality patient care to the highest professional standards using an evidence-based approach.
To achieve this goal, the Clinical Nurse Manager II will lead in the implementation and provision of quality care. They will be responsible for the coordination, assessment, planning, delivery and review of patient care by all staff in the designated area.
A key aspect of this role is the ability to provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to patients within the guidelines laid out by regulatory bodies. The Clinical Nurse Manager II must also participate in teams, meetings and committees as appropriate, communicating and working in cooperation with other team members.
They will facilitate coordination, cooperation and liaison across healthcare teams. In addition, they will collaborate with patients, families, carers and other staff in treatment and care.
Responsibilities of the Clinical Nurse Manager II include assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care by personal involvement and supervising the activities of other qualified nurses.
The Clinical Nurse Manager II must ensure that the care delivered by the team is based on standards formulated on evidence-based practice and agreed upon through hospital policy.
Regular evaluation and monitoring of patient care are essential to ensure that care is delivered effectively. The Clinical Nurse Manager II must use hospital quality systems to achieve this goal.
To develop and promote good relationships with patients, families and carers, they must create a welcoming and homely environment on the ward.
The Clinical Nurse Manager II will work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team, promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.
Key responsibilities also include evaluating and further developing the philosophy, objectives and goals of the department.
The Clinical Nurse Manager II must ensure that all staff are familiar with the use and care of equipment, and that such equipment is maintained in good working condition.
Confidentiality of information regarding patients/residents is crucial and must be strictly adhered to.
The post holder will be expected to provide necessary supervision, coordination and deployment of nursing and support staff to ensure the optimum delivery of care in the designated area.
Effective communication at ward and departmental level is vital, and the Clinical Nurse Manager II must facilitate team building.
They will provide leadership and motivation which is conducive to good working relations and work performance.
Efficient and effective management of resources is also a key responsibility of the Clinical Nurse Manager II.
They will lead on practice development within the clinical area, and implement change accordingly.
Promotion, facilitation and participation in the development of nursing policies and procedures are essential.
The Clinical Nurse Manager II must monitor these developments and lead on proactive improvement.
Contribution to the formulation, development and implementation of policies and procedures at area and hospital level is required.
The Clinical Nurse Manager II will actively participate in the Nursing Management structure by supporting the Assistant Director of Nursing, Clinical Nurse Manager III and deputising in their absence when required.
Maintenance of all necessary clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements is crucial.

Initiate, participate in and evaluate audit according to CHKS/JCI/JAG/HIQA, Hospital policy and Lean requirements under the guidance and supported by Senior Nursing Leadership team and Quality team.
On-call Rota:
The post holder will be expected to take part in the on-call managers rota.
Staff Development and Education:
Ensure that the care delivered to patients/clients is a result of individual assessment of care needs.
Actively promote this within the ward team.
Ensure that the staff development and induction programme for trained and untrained staff is in place for the clinical area.
Ensure that each member of staff has a personal development plan that addresses the requirements of their present post and provides the opportunity for further development.
Facilitate in developing an environment conducive to promoting reflective practice.
Qualifications & Experience:
Be registered in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses kept by NMBI.
Have completed a Management Course or commit to undertake same.
Be a minimum of 5 years qualified and have previous experience within an acute Surgical/Medical environment.
Previous management experience is essential.
Have experience in change management.
Display evidence of continuing professional development.
Demonstrate an awareness of HR policies and procedures Working knowledge of Microsoft packages is essential.
Will play an active role in the continuous improvement programme in the hospital using lean tools and methodology.
Possess excellent Communication skills.
Effective communication with medical staff, other members of the multi-disciplinary team, and with patients and relatives.
Implement change in accordance with new developments in nursing.
Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.
Possess well-developed leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills.
