Job SummaryThe Staff Nurse at Cobh Hospital is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centred nursing care in accordance with professional standards, clinical guidelines, and hospital policies. The Staff Nurse works as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care for patients, promoting dignity, respect, and holistic wellbeing.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical CareProvide evidence-based nursing care to patients in line with best practice and hospital protocols.Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans.Administer medications safely and maintain accurate medication records in accordance with NMBI standards.Monitor patient progress, report concerns promptly, and escalate when necessary.Ensure the safe use of equipment and maintain a clean, therapeutic environment.Patient Safety & QualityAdhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines at all times.Record and maintain accurate clinical documentation using appropriate systems.Participate in audits, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.Uphold safeguarding practices for vulnerable patients.Communication & TeamworkWork collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support coordinated patient care.Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, families, and colleagues.Provide support, guidance, and mentorship to healthcare assistants and student nurses.Participate in handovers, team meetings, and case discussions.Professional DevelopmentMaintain professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).Engage in mandatory training and ongoing professional development.Keep up to date with clinical best practices and hospital procedures.Qualifications & RequirementsRegistered active NMBI registration.Previous clinical experience desirable; newly qualified nurses may be considered.Strong clinical judgement and ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.Commitment to patient-centred care and professional integrity.Personal AttributesCompassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.Flexible and adaptable to changing clinical needs.Commitment to continuous learning and high professional standards.Job Type: Specified-purposeContract length: 6 monthsPay: €33,000.00-€38,000.00 per hourExpected hours: 39 per weekWork Location: In person
