Network Engineering Manager – Dublin / Cork, Ireland
We are looking for a Network Engineering Manager for a multinational financial services organisation based in Dublin with massive clients worldwide. This organisation employs thousands of people in more than 40 countries and pioneers innovative software and IT solutions that meet the needs of their clients. The role based in Cork focuses on both traditional on‑prem networking and cloud networking, as well as SDWAN.
This role requires the candidate to comfortably lead a team of network administrators/engineers located around the globe, focusing on operations and support. The position reports to the SVP of Infrastructure Services.
Responsibilities
Oversee routine maintenance activities, such as patching of network devices, software upgrades, and tech refreshes. Strong familiarity with Software‑Defined Wide Area Network (SDWAN).
Responsible for proactive and reactive monitoring of the global network, including WAN and LAN at datacentres and remote offices worldwide, plus cloud networks.
Strive towards operational excellence, continuous improvement, and process stream‑lining.
Possess strong traditional networking and cloud networking experience and understanding.
Escalation point for complex troubleshooting. Recognized across the organization for expertise and sought as a resource for resolution of unique problems.
Contribute to and review the team’s processes, policies, and configuration standards.
Develop Infrastructure as Code practices focused on networking.
Build cloud infrastructure topology and environments through automation (AWS CloudFormation, Azure ARM templates, pipelines, etc.).
Elevate the skills of the Network Team in cloud networking.
Manage the activities of the Network Operations Team to align priorities with business needs.
Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support of the network infrastructure.
Monitor performance of on‑prem and cloud network infrastructure, striving to resolve issues before users are impacted.
Capacity management and planning for the network infrastructure.
Manage Priority One problems to closure.
Mentor team members to elevate technical and soft skills and encourage professional growth.
Conduct ongoing and annual appraisals of subordinate staff.
Present budget requirements at year‑end and justify capital and operational expenditure.
Demonstrate excellent business‑centric decision‑making skills.
Strong troubleshooting skills.
Travel potentially several times per year.
Abide by established processes, procedures, and policies.
Maintain the on‑call rotation calendar and participate in the rotation.
Keep informed on new developments and products in our technology area and recommend implementation of new solutions as appropriate.

The successful candidate is an experienced and energetic contributor, able to build relationships while driving alignment and strategy in the Network IT group. You can impact both day‑to‑day service delivery and long‑term structural group alignment and strategy definition. You are a mature communicator, capable of conveying technical information to non‑technical audiences, and possess strong budgetary skills with competence in communicating at all levels of the organization.
Technical Skills
must have strong knowledge and extensive hands‑on experience in enterprise networking (switches and routers), SDWAN technologies – VMware Velocloud, Azure, AWS, Google GCP, Oracle OCI cloud fundamentals, with emphasis on networking.
Degree qualified with certifications in core networking; at least 15 years of experience in networking and 5 years of network management experience in a lead role in a multinational environment. Experience automating and scripting the management and operations of network infrastructure with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, GitHub, JFrog, or network‑specific automation tools. Scripting and programming skills (JSON, YAML, Python, PowerShell, Bash shell, DOS batch, Perl, etc.).
Palo Alto firewalls and administration from Panorama.
F5 BigIP load balancers.
Analysis of packet captures (Wireshark, etc.) and flows using NetFlow collectors (SolarWinds).
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent presentation skills and ability to engage audiences.
Ability to build relationships and work well across functions.
Experience in a collaborative team environment, accepting workload and responsibilities.

Qualifications
