OverviewFounded in 2009, First Fortnight is a charity that challenges mental health prejudice through arts and cultural action. Our annual arts festival takes place during the first two weeks of January and brings together artists, audiences, and communities across Ireland to engage with mental health through creative expression. The festival aims to make the beginning of each year synonymous with mental health awareness, challenging prejudice and reducing stigma. Alongside the festival, our Centre for Creative Therapies and CACtus (Child and Adolescent Creative Therapy Service) provide free creative therapies — including art therapy, music therapy and drama therapy — to children, adolescents and adults experiencing homelessness, as well as individuals in vulnerable communities who are at risk.Board OpportunitiesThe Board of Directors of First Fortnight CLG is currently seeking to appoint several new voluntary Board Directors. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the following areas:FinanceFundraisingFestivals / Arts ProgrammingSocial change initiativesCommunicationsThese voluntary roles provide an opportunity to contribute to the strategic development and governance of a nationally recognised organisation working at the intersection of mental health, arts, and social inclusion.ResponsibilitiesBoard Directors play an active role in shaping the strategic direction, governance and financial sustainability of the organisation, supporting First Fortnight to deliver impactful arts and mental health programmes. Priority Recruitment: Finance Director. Recruitment of a Finance-focused Director is a priority. This Director will join the Finance Committee and work closely with the Governance Manager to ensure robust financial oversight, budgeting and financial controls remain in place, and that the Board receives clear and timely financial reporting. The Finance Director will present a financial update to the Board approximately every two months and will support the Board in overseeing annual financial statements and liaising with auditors where required.Time CommitmentBoard Directors attend approximately six board meetings per year, held in our Dublin office and accessible via Microsoft Teams. The estimated time commitment is approximately 4–6 hours every two months, including meeting attendance and preparation. The Finance Director will also join approximately six Finance Committee meetings annually.What You Will GainBoard Directors contribute to the governance and strategic direction of a respected mental health charity while supporting the delivery of impactful cultural and therapeutic programmes.
