PERMANENT FULL-TIME/PART-TIME SOCIAL CARE WORKERS

Overview

The Brothers of Charity Services in South Connemara are a community based, person centred service focusing on the needs and abilities of adults with intellectual disabilities. The vision of the service is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community. We continually review the way in which we support people in line with best practice internationally. Our focus going forward is to form a relationship/partnership with each individual and their family and communities, supporting people to plan and direct their own service so that they can enjoy a life with a healthy balance of supports. We wish to create opportunities for people who use our service to have valued social roles in their communities and to have the chance to form friendships. The Role

The Social Care Worker will report to the Team Leader and will fulfil a key worker role for individuals and aim to provide a safe, secure environment where individuals will participate in community and leisure activities, make choices and enjoy a lifestyle that fulfils their potential and expectations with opportunity for new experiences.


Reporting / Responsible To

Social Care Leader/Team Leader/Service Coordinator/Area Manager


Qualifications / Experience

* Eligible for registration on the Social Care Register at CORU on or before 30th November 2025.
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with people with an intellectual disability; includes autism, complex medical needs, mental health, behaviours that challenge and physical disabilities.
* Full clean manual Driving Licence (Class B).
* Fluency in verbal and written English and IT skills.


Skills

* Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to set goals, put into action and follow through.
* The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
* Excellent listening skills, creativity and initiative, be innovative and self‑motivated, have the ability to exercise good judgement, discretion and confidentiality, patience and a sense of humour.
* Fluency in the Irish Language is desirable. If not fluent, a willingness to learn Irish, with the support of the service, is expected.
* Commitment to current best practice internationally and co‑operating in an interdisciplinary team environment with a person‑centred philosophy.
* Staff will be expected to network with local community groups and develop positive links for the individuals who use the service.
* Keep up to date with current practice within the area of intellectual disability.


Working Hours

Permanent part‑time post is 52 hours a fortnight.

Permanent full‑time posts are 78 hours a fortnight.

Both posts are based on a 14 day duty roster. The successful candidates will be required to work sleepovers, day & night duty, weekends and public holidays. The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.


Annual Leave

22 days pro rata per annum. Appropriate service related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years’ service respectively.


Remuneration

Department of Health Social Care Worker salary scale (01/08/2025) - €40,351 x 10 increments - €55,599 (max) pro rata per annum. LSI €56,650 per annum is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.


Tenure

These posts are Permanent and pensionable.


Probation

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employer’s discretion.
