Automation Technician (Days – BED Shift)(Medical Device Manufacturing)
Overview
Our clnt is seeking a skilled and proactive Automation Technician to join a dynamic technician team within a high-volume medical device manufacturing environment. This is a permanent back-end days (BED) shift role, working Thursday, Friday, Saturday and every second Sunday (8am–8pm), with a 24% shift premium. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimising automated production systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations in a regulated GMP environment.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain automation equipment in line with health, safety, quality, and operational standards to ensure compliant and efficient production output
Perform systematic root cause analysis and structured troubleshooting to resolve equipment and process issues
Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance, ensuring all documentation and records are completed accurately and in line with GMP requirements
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance, yield, and operational efficiency
Assist with commissioning, installation, and validation of new equipment and automation projects
Support FAT, SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ activities for automated systems and production lines
Manage and maintain spare parts inventory to ensure equipment uptime
Cross-train and support development of other technicians within the team
Participate in change control processes and ensure adherence to cGMP standards
Support compliance with all company safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
Provide flexibility to support equipment buy-offs, training, and project activities as required
Skills & Competencies
Strong systematic troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
Experience in high-volume automation or robotics environments
Understanding of cGMP and regulated manufacturing environments
Ability to work effectively in a team-based, fast-paced production setting
Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
High awareness of health & safety practices
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
Ability to develop innovative solutions to complex technical issues
Requirements
Level 6 / 7 / 8 qualification in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field OR qualified tradesperson with relevant industrial experience
Experience in automated manufacturing environments (medical device experience highly desirable)
Exposure to pneumatics, hydraulics, PLCs, servo systems, robotics, vision systems, or ultrasonic welding advantageous
Understanding of process capability and measurement systems (MSA / GR&R desirable)
Experience with FAT, SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ validation activities preferred
Demonstrated involvement in process improvement initiatives in a manufacturing setting
