Overview of role:
We are currently recruiting for a fixed-term 12-month contract. The CCU Staff Nurse will provide professional nursing care for a defined group of patients by assessing, planning, and implementing their care needs, along with delivering and evaluating skilled professional care under the supervision of the Department Manager. The nurse will offer expert cardiology nursing advice and educational support, ensuring exceptional patient care in a setting where quality, respect, caring, and compassion are prioritized. The role requires highly developed analytical skills gained through extensive experience, enabling understanding of complex cardiac conditions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Clinical
* Recognize life-threatening and non-life-threatening arrhythmias within CCU and via telemetry monitoring throughout the hospital.
* Demonstrate expertise in assessing and managing emergency cardiac admissions and acutely ill cardiac patients, including administering intravenous opiates and nitrate infusions as prescribed.
* Anticipate, recognize, and respond rapidly to problems of critically ill cardiac patients.
* Assess and manage patients in the acute chest pain admission bed, including thrombolysis consideration.
* Create a safe and welcoming environment for patients and relatives in a complex, technical area.
* Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to manage patient flow and emergency admissions effectively.
* Work collaboratively with other disciplines to improve patient outcomes.
* Plan safe transport of critically ill patients within the hospital and to Cardio-Thoracic Centres.
* Assist with complex invasive procedures such as emergency cardiac pacing, intubation, CVP monitoring, and cardioversions, demonstrating specialized knowledge after training.
1. Quality and Audit
* Participate and lead clinical audits and research, promoting evidence-based practice.
* Analyze and report on research and audit findings.
* Contribute to local audits for annual accreditation.
* Collaborate with the Quality and Patient Safety team to meet accreditation standards.
2. Health and Safety
* Uphold hospital policies on Fire, Infection Control, Radiation Safety, and general Health and Safety regulations.
* Identify risks and adhere to incident reporting procedures.
* Maintain a duty of care for staff, patients, visitors, and colleagues.
* Support training needs, induction, and development of staff, acting as a role model and contributing to ongoing learning.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Registered General Nurse with NMBI.
* Minimum of 4 years' experience in a coronary care setting.
* Competency in ECG interpretation or willingness to undertake training.
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
* Extensive knowledge of cardiac care.
