Senior Orthopaedic Physiotherapist - UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic Dublin

Location: UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic, Santry, Dublin 9.

Job type: Full-time Contract of Employment

Overview of role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic's Inpatient

and Post-operative Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Service. The role includes clinical and administrative

duties that support the Physiotherapy Department in the provision of a high-quality service to users.

The role allows for development of the candidate within UPMC SSC.

It is envisaged this will include primarily a ward-based caseload with up to 6 hours of

administrative/management-related time per week and an opportunity to have a post-operative

caseload or work with the Consultants where appropriate.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

* To assist the Lead IPOP physiotherapist in the day-to-day running of the ward-based

physiotherapy service and in-patient care.
- To deliver a high-quality service of in-patient, pre-operative and post-operative patient

physiotherapy following the SSC6 approach.
- Lead on the implementation and monitoring of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS)

protocols.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and contribute to discharge

planning.
- To assist the Lead Physiotherapist in operational and strategic planning.
- To assist in the delivery of an outpatient service to Consultant outpatient clinics within

the hospital.

- To refer where appropriate for engagement with the referring Consultant surgeon,

Programs, Sports Physicians, outpatient rehabilitation.
- To assist in tracking the numbers of patients on a weekly basis being seen by inpatient

physiotherapy and collate a monthly report of this data.
- To assist the IPOP Lead in giving regular feedback to the junior IPOP physiotherapists

within the team and help develop/mentor them.
- To assist with rosters, time management (TMS) and scheduling of inpatient

physiotherapy team to suit the demands of the ward activity in conjunction with the

lead IPOP physiotherapist.
- To be competent with the fitting of boots, braces etc. as the service demands.
- To work on a rota to maintain a 7 day a week service.
- To ensure appropriate record keeping and electronic patient record, including billing,

and maintenance of good practice in data recording and evidence-based medicine.
- To develop on-going protocols and evidence-based management in conjunction with the

inpatient physiotherapy and outpatient rehabilitation teams.
- To ensure patient dignity always.
- To complete stream orientated and department-based tasks as directed by the IPOP

Lead.
- Arrange and carry out duties in a timely manner within settings appropriate to service user needs and in line with local policy / guidelines.
- Maintain professional standards in relation to consent, confidentiality, ethics and legislation.
- To contribute to the continuous professional development programme in the

physiotherapy department
- To help to develop post-operative protocols in conjunction with outpatient stream

protocols to fit with the SSC6 pathway
- To get involved in research within area of interest that leads to the possibility of

publishing at least a poster or paper a year in a peer reviewed journal and national

conference.
- To assist in the conduct an audit of service delivery on delegated topic of interest

Qualifications & Experience:

The candidate must possess the following:

* Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree or equivalent
* Minimum of 3 years Post-graduate experience
* Experience working in orthopaedic or in-patient environment
* Candidate must have CORU registration and being a member of the Irish Society of

Chartered Physiotherapists is desirable

* Preferable: MSc Physiotherapy, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Science
