JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of the role is to develop and implement psychological interventions that meet individual service-users’ needs by providing holistic assessment and direct support and guidance to service-users and staff alike.

Part-time (14 hours / 2 days per week) working with clients with a range of conditions including Learning Disability/Autism/Mental Health/Physical or Sensory Disability.

Formal Education / Training

* Relevant professional qualification in Psychology
* Chartered membership (or eligible for) with the Psychological Society of Ireland or Chartered membership (or eligible for) of the British Psychological Society.

Work Experience

* Preferably, at least 3 years work experience in the field of Learning Disability/Autism/Mental Health/Physical or Sensory Disability
* An understanding of the Recovery Approach and of Person Centred Planning would be an advantage

Skills and Knowledge

* Good organisational and time management skills
* The ability to develop positive relationships both internally and externally
* Comprehensive knowledge of disability and the potential impact of training and preparation for employment can have
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Professional, positive and confident approach
* Know and implement professional boundaries and best practice
* Delivery of information and facilitation skills an advantage
* Have a good knowledge of the National Guidance Children First and the HSE Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Policy

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Report all relevant psychological issues to the Principal Psychologist (in his/her absence, to the Senior Psychologist) to enable the ongoing development of psychological services.
* Encourage and enable students/service users in identifying their learning, social, emotional, cognitive needs in order to help prepare for their first Individual Action Plan (IAP) or Person Centred Planning meetings in compliance with current regulations, funder imperatives and organisation policies.
* Support students/service users to cope effectively with the psychological issues that present in their lives. Also to facilitate the assessment process by supervising the administration of appropriate tests, compiling results, analysis of these results, and report writing.
* Provide regular and scheduled supervision and training to the Rehabilitation Officers/Trainee Psychologists/Assistant Psychologists to ensure that they can provide evidence based interventions and support.
* Liaise with other stakeholders as appropriate, to include families, professionals and external agencies and engage in crisis management with students and service users as required.
* Design and deliver training to staff that provides them with up to date training and knowledge in the area of education, rehabilitation, disability management, and other relevant areas. To provide staff with support for their work with students/service users, through the provision of regular meetings to ensure that appropriate professional standards are maintained.
* Conduct and engage in relevant research and evaluation to ensure that our services reflect best practice at all times. Supporting management in the development, research and implementation of new training programmes, review programmes, audit and review of services and process, review of existing policies and the development of new policies.

* Adherence to the Continuous Professional Development requirements of the PSI
* Make a professional contribution regarding best practice to the effective implementation of psychological strategies to the organisation
