A Day in the Life Of
The Senior Test Engineer supports the design, implementation, and qualification of automated and semi‑automated test systems, and designs and executes test cases used to verify functional and performance requirements of physiologic monitoring devices and subsystems such as pulse oximetry, regional oximetry, EEG‑based devices, and other sensing technologies. On a typical day, this role works closely with the Principal Test Automation Engineer and cross‑functional partners.
Translate system and subsystem requirements into detailed test cases, procedures, and automated scripts.
Hands‑on development, execution, and troubleshooting of tests, analysing results, and ensuring thorough coverage across normal, boundary, and fault conditions.
Assist in the design, implementation, and qualification of automated and semi‑automated test systems for physiologic monitoring devices and subsystems.
Develop, document, and maintain detailed test cases, procedures, and automated scripts aligned with system and subsystem requirements.
Execute functional, performance, and system‑level tests, including regression, exploratory, and fault‑injection testing.
Configure and operate test equipment, instrumentation, simulators, and data acquisition systems required for verification activities.
Analyse test results, identify defects or anomalies, and clearly document findings, root‑cause hypotheses, and supporting data.
Work cross‑functionally with software, hardware, systems, and quality engineers to troubleshoot issues and verify fixes.
Key Skills & Experience
Requires a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or a PhD with 0 years of relevant experience.
Hands‑on experience developing and executing manual, automated, or semi‑automated test cases for complex electromechanical or embedded systems.
Proficiency with test automation tools, scripting, or programming languages commonly used in test environments (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar).
Experience working with test equipment and instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, simulators, and data acquisition systems.
Strong understanding of requirements‑based testing, traceability, and test coverage for system and subsystem verification.
Experience analysing test data, identifying defects and failure modes, and clearly documenting results and root‑cause hypotheses.
Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across hardware, software, and system interfaces in collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
Familiarity with medical device development processes and quality systems, including verification and validation activities; experience with regulated environments preferred.
Experience creating and maintaining test documentation, including test plans, protocols, procedures, and reports.
Solid understanding of design‑for‑testability concepts and the role of test in product quality and risk reduction.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings and recommendations to engineering peers and stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently on assigned tasks, and deliver high‑quality results within project timelines.
Experience with automated test frameworks such as the Robot Framework or LabVIEW desired.
