Overview

The University College Cork (UCC) invites applications for a 24-month, full-time Research Fellow post in power systems engineering. The research is part of the AUTONOMY project (hosted at UCC) and the European consortium HVDC4ISLANDS. AUTONOMY aims to create tools to manage electrical energy resources at the local level and to pioneer a transfer learning approach for energy manager agents across communities. HVDC4ISLANDS focuses on new electrical designs for energy islands and renewable energy hubs to accelerate the transition to clean energy.


Responsibilities

* Conduct high-quality research in energy flexibility, grid digitalisation, data-driven modelling, and privacy-preserving methods with a strong publication record.
* Contribute to national and international research projects and collaborate with industry and academic partners.
* Supervise postgraduate students and assist with grant writing.
* Work under the supervision of Dr. Barry Hayes and participate in the MaREI Centre community and events, including seminars, the MaREI Annual Symposium, outreach, and public engagement activities.
* Engage with project partners across the AUTONOMY and HVDC4ISLANDS initiatives and contribute to research dissemination.

* Salary: €65,889 - €71,796 p.a. (IUA scale)


Working Location and Organisation

The MaREI Centre of Energy, Climate and Marine is the Research Ireland centre of excellence in Energy, Climate and Marine research in Ireland, comprising 13 universities, third-level institutes and research organisations, with about 103 industrial partners and ~€60m in funding.


Supervision and Community

The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Dr. Barry Hayes, Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Electrical Power Systems, and will join a vibrant MaREI research community of more than 220 researchers, participating in MaREI Centre events and engagement activities.
