The role
FläktGroup Ireland is seeking a dedicated Controls Engineer with HVAC to join our team, ensuring the continuous, reliable operation of critical HVAC and cooling systems that support our clients.
Purpose of the Position
Provide precise and meticulous technical support during the maintenance phases of Data Centre Cooling, ensuring efficient system maintenance and performance optimisation within a live critical data centre environment.
Main Responsibilities
Maintain all processes and procedures in accordance with company / contract procedures
Provide support for dealing with Controls related issues including engineering support, callouts and PPMs with the necessary aptitude to ensure benefits to all parties.
Be responsible for ensuring that engineers' reports are produced on time detailing accurate and informative information
Identify opportunities for project and energy saving initiatives and liaise with Project manager for pricing recommended works
Basic Requirements of the Position
Education/Knowledge/Certification
Must-Have: Must be a trade qualified Industrial Plumber with experience working on commercial and industrial pipework systems.
Nice-to-Have: Knowledge or previous exposure to HVAC systems, particularly Air Handling Units (AHUs).
Experience
Extensive experience working on chilled water systems and closed-loop cooling networks.
Installation, maintenance, and repair of stainless steel, copper, and Victaulic/grooved pipework systems.
Experience with chillers, pumps, plate heat exchangers, dry air coolers, buffer vessels, and associated mechanical plant.
Carrying out flushing, pressure testing, filling, venting, water treatment coordination, and commissioning activities.
Experience working in critical environments such as data centres or mission‑critical facilities is advantageous.
Working alongside controls engineers, commissioning engineers, and mechanical specialists during projects and maintenance works.
Experience operating under permit‑to‑work systems, RAMS, and strict Health & Safety procedures.
Skills
Capable of carrying out planned preventive maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, and minor project works.
Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills with the ability to diagnose and repair system issues efficiently.
Able to work independently and manage workload within live operational environments.
Good understanding of uptime and resilience requirements within critical cooling infrastructure.
Accurate completion of maintenance records, service reports, and documentation.
Good communication, teamwork, and IT skills with a positive attitude and strong timekeeping.
Flexibility to support shutdowns, emergency callouts, and out‑of‑hours works when required.
Competence
Competent in the installation and maintenance of valves, strainers, expansion vessels, pressurisation units, and associated equipment.
Understanding of chilled water system operation including differential pressure control, variable flow systems, pump arrangements, and redundancy principles.
Ability to diagnose leaks, flow issues, air ingress, pressure fluctuations, and water quality concerns.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, schematics, and isometric drawings.
Familiarity with HVAC controls, BMS systems, temperature and pressure control strategies is advantageous.
Understanding of lockout/tagout (LOTO), safe systems of work, and site safety requirements.
Electrically qualified preferred.
Working Conditions
Primary work location is Data Centre Static.
