The Ceramics Craft Tutor will be required to teach on a range of courses within the subject area to groups of students.
To carry out all associated duties in line with the Education, Development Plan; DCCI strategic priorities and the role of tutor practitioner.
Additionally, the post is required to take on additional areas of responsibility within the school from the list included in this job description.
The responsibilities will be reviewed each year as part of the performance development review (PMDS) process.
Qualifications
Desired degree, qualified in the relevant subject area.
Knowledge of assessing learners across a range of courses e.g. for micro credential awards (nationally and internationally).
Teaching qualification, candidates who do not have this qualification will, as a condition of employment, be required to obtain a teaching qualification within 2 years of the appointment date.
Demonstrable transversal skills holding the relevant and or recent project(s) example with a 3-year currency (or by undertaking initial assessments at job interview stage and by achieving the required level within one year of their appointment date as appropriate).
Experience and Knowledge
Current relevant (last 2 years) industry experience at a Ceramic studio/workshop.
Successful experience of designing and delivering learning in relevant teaching/vocational areas and delivering this within a busy workshop environment.
Successful teaching/training experience with young people/adults, within the specified curriculum area.
Understanding of Child and Vulnerable Adult protection (Safeguarding Agenda) and the willingness to increase knowledge.
A health and safety qualification with demonstrable experience of teaching and learning in an applied learning environment.
Skills and Abilities
Demonstrable ability to deliver excellence in teaching and learning.
Ability to embed transversal skills in practical classes.
Ability to relate to and motivate students from a variety of backgrounds and ages, and to employ effective teaching strategies.
IT skills – use of Microsoft packages, interactive white boards, SharePoint, Moodle or equivalent virtual learning environment.
Good standard of written/verbal communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Ability to contribute proactively to increase recruitment, retention and achievement whilst maintaining quality standards.
Self-starter, team player, well-motivated and enthusiastic.
Commitment to achieving excellence through continuous curriculum and personal development.
