Overview of role:
UPMC Whitfield Hospital is currently recruiting for Clinical Nurse Manager I – Orthopaedic Ward on a Full-Time Permanent Contract.
The primary role of CNMI is to provide safe and effective care to patients; the CNM I will play a pivotal role in service planning, coordinating and managing activity and resources within the clinical area.
The CNM I, in collaboration with the CNM II, will coordinate and lead in the implementation and provision of quality care.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence-based care planning approach.
Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership.
Be responsible for the coordination, assessment, planning, delivery and review of patient care by all staff in the designated area.
Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by NMBI.
Participate in team meetings/committees as appropriate, communicating and working in cooperation with other team members.
Collaborate with patients, family, carers and other staff in treatment/care.
Manage and access all documents, policies and procedures and report incidents and complaints through our hospital quality management system – Q-Pulse.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care by personal involvement and supervising the activities of other qualified nurses.
Ensure that the care delivered by the team is based on standards formulated on evidence-based practice and agreed through hospital policy.
Develop and promote good relationships with patients, families and carers and make the ward environmentally welcoming and homely.
Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.
Evaluate and further develop the philosophy, objectives and goals of the department in conjunction with the line manager.
Ensure all staff are familiar with the use and care of all equipment, and that such equipment is maintained in good working condition.
Ensure strict confidentiality of information regarding patients/residents is adhered to.
Manage own caseload in accordance with the needs of the post.
Encourage evidence-based practice, using a care planning approach to nursing care.
Communicate verbally and/or in writing results of assessments, treatment/care programs and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with hospital policy.
Lead or play an active role in discharge planning of the patient.
Assist in providing staff leadership and motivation, conducive to good staff relations and performance.
Managerial Responsibilities:
Provide necessary supervision, coordination and deployment of nursing and support staff to ensure optimum delivery of care in the designated area, allocating work fairly and competently and exercising authority in the running of the assigned area(s) as deputised by the CNM II.
Actively participate in the Nursing Management structure by supporting the CNM II and deputising in his/her absence when required.
Manage communication at ward and departmental level and facilitate team building.
Provide staff leadership and motivation conducive to good working relations and performance.
Manage all resources efficiently and effectively.
Lead on practice development within the clinical area.
Lead and implement change.
Promote, facilitate and participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures.
Contribute to the formulation, development and implementation of policies and procedures at area and hospital level.
Maintain all necessary clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements.
Ensure that the staff development and induction programme for trained and untrained staff is in place for the clinical area.
Personnel:
Follow uniform policy reference.
General:
Through the course of the working day or week there may be a requirement to work in other areas of the hospital in line with patient requirements as requested by your line manager/deputy or nurse management.
Staff must produce satisfactory documentary evidence of all training and experience claimed by them, if required to do so by the organisation.

Records must never be left in a manner that unauthorised persons can obtain access to them and must be kept in safe custody when no longer required.
Qualifications & Experience:
Registered in the General Division of the National Register of Nurses kept by NMBI.
Completed a management course or committed to undertake one.
Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience within a medical/surgical environment.
Previous management experience is desirable.
Some experience of change management.

Salary: €57,****** – €67,****** per annum based on a 37-hour week.
