We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to join our EP&R Estimating Dept within Suir Engineering Ltd. This position will be based in the Waterford Office but can be a Hybrid Role. What you will be doing?
The Engineer plays a critical role in shaping the technical solution during tender stage and acts as the primary engineering interface between estimating, suppliers and the client. They act as technical lead within the EP&R Estimating team for HV and MV tenders.
Key responsibilities include:
Reviewing Employer’s Requirements, Technical Specifications, and associated documentation to identify technical risks and opportunities.
Developing compliant and optimised technical solutions aligned with tender requirements and commercial strategy.
Carrying out detailed cable sizing and routing assessments for HV, MV, LV and DC systems, including ampacity, voltage drop, thermal resistivity and installation method considerations.
Producing and reviewing Single Line Diagrams, schematics and conceptual layouts in line with project requirements.
Defining primary plant configuration including transformers, GIS or AIS switchgear, BESS integration, and auxiliary systems.
Reviewing and interpreting protection and control requirements in collaboration with OEMs and system designers.
Preparing technical schedules, scope clarifications and assumptions for inclusion within tender submissions.
Engaging with equipment suppliers and OEMs to review technical submissions, ensure compliance and support commercial evaluation.
Participating in technical bid evaluations and contributing to preferred bidder selection alongside the estimating team.
Identifying technical risk items and advising on appropriate contingencies during tender stage.
Supporting RFI preparation and technical correspondence with clients and consultants.
Driving the technical submission and ensuring alignment between design intent, pricing and programme.
Developing and maintaining relationships with internal engineering teams, site teams and operations to ensure buildability and knowledge transfer.
Providing technical support during early project handover following successful award.
Is this the job for me?
The ideal candidate will have a third level qualification in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in HV or MV engineering, preferably within the power, renewables or grid connection sector. You will demonstrate:
Experience reviewing Employer’s Requirements, technical specifications and documentation.
Proven ability to carry out cable sizing and system design calculations independently.
Understanding of IEC standards, utility requirements and grid compliance obligations.
Experience supporting tender submissions or working within a commercial or pre‑construction environment.
Confidence to engage with OEMs, consultants and internal stakeholders on technical matters.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
Practical mindset with awareness of buildability and site considerations.
Clear written communication skills, particularly in preparing technical clarifications and submission documentation.
Ability to take ownership of technical packages and see them through to completion.
Desirable
Experience in renewable energy projects such as wind, solar or battery energy storage systems.
Experience interfacing with DNO or TSO standards.
