Site Overview
Galway site is experiencing significant growth, expanding from approximately 260 to 430 employees. The mixed-use site has a strong R&D focus with laboratory facilities and is currently developing a Centre of Excellence for Research & Development. Two laboratories have already been completed, with a third and fourth in development.
The R&D function is rapidly scaling, growing from a single team member to approximately 25, with plans to expand to around 45. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a developing department and support a dynamic, innovation-driven environment.
Role Overview
The EHS Engineer will primarily support Environmental, Health & Safety activities within an R&D laboratory and commercial office setting. As the site continues to evolve, the scope of the role will expand, offering the successful candidate the chance to help shape EHS practices and influence safety culture.
We are seeking a confident professional who can challenge processes where appropriate, drive improvements, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide EHS support across R&D laboratories and office environments.
* Develop and implement laboratory safety best practices.
* Adapt and deploy EHS policies in line with site requirements.
* Partner closely with R&D teams to promote a strong safety culture.
* Manage waste programs and ensure regulatory compliance.
* Support wellbeing initiatives and oversee elements of occupational health.
* Act as a hands-on safety leader, identifying risks and driving corrective actions.
* Contribute to continuous improvement as the site expands.
Candidate Profile
* Ideally 4–5 years' experience in an EHS role.
* Background in manufacturing or R&D environments is strongly preferred.
* Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
* Comfortable operating in a changing environment and influencing stakeholders.
* Strong communication skills with a proactive mindset.
* Open to learning — training will be provided in specific areas as needed.
