We search for a Construction Engineer – Utilities will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering utility works on a major infrastructure project at Dublin Airport.
This is a unique role that requires ensuring both, underground and above-ground services are installed safely, accurately, and in compliance with design specifications, statutory regulations, and airport operational standards.
Reporting to the Site Agent – Utilities, will work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders to manage on-site activities, resolve technical issues, and ensure that works are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Responsibility:
Utilities Construction & Site Engineering
·Deliver and manage the installation of utilities, including drainage, water, foul sewer, surface water, ducting, electrical, communications, and fuel or specialist services (as applicable)
·Set out utility alignments, levels, and interfaces in accordance with drawings and specifications
·Ensure works are executed in line with contract documentation, approvals, and technical standards
·Provide day‑to‑day engineering support to site crews and subcontractors
Coordination & Interfaces
·Coordinate utility works with structures, pavements, M&E, and operational airport stakeholders
·Manage interfaces with existing live services, including protection, temporary diversions, and commissioning
·Liaise with designers, utility authorities, and client representatives to resolve technical issues
·Support the planning and sequencing of work to minimize disruption to airport operations
Quality Assurance & Control
·Implement and maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for utility installations
·Ensure materials and workmanship meet project and statutory requirements
·Manage inspections, pressure testing, CCTV surveys, and commissioning activities
·Maintain accurate as‑built records, red‑line drawings, and test documentation
Health, Safety & Environment (HSEQ)
·Ensure strict adherence to HSEQ procedures, including airport‑specific safety and permit systems
·Review and implement method statements and risk assessments for utility works
·Promote safe systems of work, including excavation, safety and service avoidance
·Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and audits
Programme & Progress
·Assist the Site Agent – Utilities in managing the programme and short‑term planning of works
·Track progress against programme and identify potential risks or constraints
·Support recovery planning and mitigation measures where required
·Coordinate with suppliers and plant operations to meet programme targets
Documentation & Reporting
·Maintain daily site diaries, progress records, and technical documentation
·Raise, track, and close RFIs, permits, and utility approvals
·Provide regular progress and technical updates to the Site Agent – Utilities
·Support handover documentation and project close‑out
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
·Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
·Experience as a Construction or Site Engineer working on utilities
·Knowledge of drainage systems, ducting, service diversions, and service coordination
·Experience on large infrastructure or civil engineering projects
·Strong understanding of utility installation and construction sequencing
·Ability to interpret and implement complex utility drawings and specifications
·High level of accuracy and attention to detail
·Strong coordination and communication skills
·Problem‑solving ability in constrained and live environments
·Proactive safety awareness, particularly around buried services
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
·Experience working in live airports or high‑security operational environments
·Familiarity with Irish standards, specifications, and utility authority requirements
·Safe Pass and relevant utility‑specific training (e.g. CAT & Genny, confined spaces)
·Working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng / MIEI) status
