Overview
Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist - Orthopaedic Inpatient Service (Location: Sandyford, Dublin).
Job Type: Full Time.
Job Description: Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in the Orthopaedic inpatient service.
Department: Allied Therapy.
Reports to: Allied Therapy Manager.

Responsibilities
Professional responsibilities:
Co-ordinate and deliver an effective and efficient Orthopaedic In-Patient Physiotherapy Service, based on assessment of needs.
Develop and administer the highest quality of service by identifying and implementing operational procedures in line with best practice standards.
Keep abreast with new developments, skills and technology to ensure continuing competence in the job.
Enhance skills to initiate and respond to changes in the work environment as additional roles may be demanded (e.g., data analysis, clinical audit, continued professional development and research).
Be actively involved in physiotherapy service development through process improvement, participation in internal and external committees/interest groups.
Management responsibilities:
Participate in the management of the Physiotherapy Service as a member of the Senior Physiotherapy Management team in co-operation with the Allied Therapy Manager.
Create and promote good working relationships through open communication.
Contribute to and participate in staff induction, staff appraisal and in-service training programmes.
Actively participate in and promote continuing education and research activities consistent with the position.
Maintain appropriate records and statistics sufficient for organisational and legal purposes (including work-related injuries/incidents).
Review and update Orthopaedic Policy and guideline documents.
Assist the Allied Therapy Manager in achieving Quality and Accreditation requirements for Orthopaedic Inpatient service.
Provide intra-disciplinary education to promote Orthopaedic physiotherapy service in Beacon Hospital.
Liaise with orthopaedic consultant surgeons on planning and delivery of quality care for orthopaedic patient cohorts.
Staff management:
Lead by example a professional, dedicated and punctual team.
Encourage professional development of team members through self-learning, formal courses and in-service training.
Co-ordinate the education of Orthopaedic Seniors and Staff Grades to meet the needs of the staff and the department.
Co-ordinate the Orthopaedic Physiotherapy inpatient service through overseeing the staff rosters to ensure all aspects of the service are adequately covered.
Liaise with orthopaedic surgeons and care staff.
Note: The hours of work are at the discretion of the Allied Therapy Manager and will include evening cover to meet service needs.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a degree in Physiotherapy.
CORU registered.
Member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.
Experience:
Candidates must have extensive post-graduate experience in Orthopaedic physiotherapy.
Proven track record of clinical/academic achievement in their specialist field.
A suitable post-graduate qualification in Orthopaedics / Trauma is desirable.

In addition to the responsibilities and core competencies of a senior physiotherapist: Applies expert clinical knowledge and reasoning skills in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient interventions for elective orthopaedic caseload.
Performs clinical skills in keeping with current evidence-based practice.
Delivers a holistic patient-focused approach and embraces the MDT perspective.
Applies evidence-based outcome measures to evaluate efficacy of treatment and quality of care.
Delegates a clinical caseload and other tasks to team members appropriately.
Balances clinical demands with other responsibilities.
Demonstrates an educational role (e.g., mentor).
Participates in research, quality improvement and service development.
Generates new knowledge and skills in the specified area of Physiotherapy.
Disseminates advanced ethical awareness and responsibilities in specific areas.
Demonstrates leadership and an understanding of service planning.
Demonstrates a critical understanding of the context in which practice occurs (e.g., social, political and interprofessional collaboration).
Personal Competencies:
Motivated and enthusiastic individual with clear commitment to the role.
Demonstrates natural leadership qualities with ability to work well within a multi-professional team.
Committed to personal and team development.
All posts in Beacon Hospital require a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service.
Therefore, the post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility as and when required by their manager or hospital management.
