Position Summary
Bentley Systems is hiring a principal data engineer within our Data Architecture and Engineering team, part of the Data Operations group. This role is suited for an experienced, ambitious, and technically skilled data engineer interested in sharing knowledge. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building data pipelines, data modeling, data integration, workflow management, and following software engineering best practices.
The Principal Data Engineer will implement best practices to solve business problems across domains such as product, sales, finance, marketing, and operations. Responsibilities include managing different data environments and advising on architecture patterns.
The role requires coding, maintaining data pipelines, utilizing data ops methodologies, and experience across the software development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
* Interface with multiple teams across disciplines with varying skill levels.
* Mentor and teach data engineering best practices.
* Perform code reviews to ensure quality and standards.
* Develop business understanding to leverage data effectively.
* Stay updated with current technologies, tools, and frameworks.
* Lead multiple large, challenging projects simultaneously while supporting others.
* Manage Data Architecture tools such as Snowflake, Matillion, DBT, Terraform.
* Oversee the transition from on-premises SQL Server to cloud solutions.
Qualifications
* 3+ years managing scalable cloud data warehouses like Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks.
* 3+ years building data pipelines with tools such as Matillion, DBT, Azure Data Factory, Airflow, Spark.
* Experience architecting cloud-native solutions in Azure, AWS, or GCP.
* Proficiency in SQL and optimizing queries.
* Programming experience (Python preferred) for building production-quality data pipelines.
* Knowledge of data modeling, especially dimensional modeling.
* Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
* Building CI/CD processes using Azure DevOps or similar.
* Experience supporting data science and reporting teams.
* Bachelor's degree in relevant fields; Master's preferred.
Preferred Skills
* Experience with real-time data movement technologies like Azure Event Hubs or Kafka.
* Certifications such as Snowpro or cloud certifications.
