Overview
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and roles.
The Mental Health Assessment Unit (MHAU) is part of the Unscheduled Care Service and offers permanent positions for two Band 6 Registered Mental Nurses. The unit provides same‑day face‑to‑face assessments, diagnoses and treatment options for patients who would otherwise attend emergency services.
Responsibilities
Work as part of the Unscheduled Care Team / Mental Health Assessment Units, collaborating with clinicians and partner agencies throughout NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
Support individuals presenting in crisis with complex mental health, physical, and social care needs, delivering responsive care and home treatment interventions over a 24‑hour period where required.
Provide specialist mental health service to Emergency Departments and inpatient services within the general hospital setting, offering advice and guidance to multidisciplinary colleagues.
Support timely assessment and access to mental health inpatient beds across NHS GG&C, including coordinating hospital admissions.
Work closely with the Nurse Team Leader, prioritising and managing your own workload and ensuring resources are used effectively.
Maintain a strong understanding of the interface between inpatient services and wider community mental health teams.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Registered Mental Health Nurse with current Level 1 NMC registration.
Minimum degree level in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent relevant experience.
Excellent communication skills and experience completing comprehensive mental health assessments.
Awareness of community services and resources is an advantage.
A driving licence is desirable.
