My client is a well-established contractor with a reputation for delivering complex civil and building infrastructure projects across Ireland. They pride themselves on quality, innovation, and collaboration, and are now scaling their design function in Cork to support upcoming growth.
They are seekig a Design Coordinator to lead, coordinate, and manage all design activities for projects in the Cork region, ensuring design deliverables meet quality, cost, programme, and compliance objectives. You will act as the bridge between design, delivery, and client stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and oversee design development from concept through to construction-ready stages, ensuring alignment with project requirements and client expectations
* Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams (structural, mechanical & electrical, architectural, civil, etc.) to integrate design outputs seamlessly
* Review design drawings, specifications, and calculations to ensure compliance with standards, regulations, and project scopes
* Monitor design programme, maintain milestone schedules, flag delays or risks, proactively engage mitigation strategies
* Lead design coordination meetings with internal teams, consultants, and client representatives
* Maintain and manage design documentation, including drawing issue tracking, version control, and approvals log
* Identify design risks and interface issues early, escalate and manage resolution through stakeholders
* Support tendering and bid phases by preparing design input, clarifications, and technical material
* Liaise with the construction team to ensure design intent is maintained during delivery and advise on design changes as required
* Contribute to continuous improvement of design workflows, quality assurance, and process best practices
* Mentor or support junior design coordinators or engineers, as needed
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or equivalent
* 7+ years' relevant experience in design management/co-ordination on building or civil infrastructure projects
* Proven experience coordinating multi-disciplinary teams in a complex project environment
* Solid technical understanding of structural, M&E, architectural, and civil design interfaces
* Experience in design reviews, compliance checks, and quality control
* Strong competence with design software / tools and design documentation systems (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks or similar)
* Excellent organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills
* Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, adapt priorities, and balance time pressures
* Sound understanding of relevant Irish/UK design standards, building regulations, and codes
