Staff Nurse

Location: Aut Even Hospital
Job type: Permanent

Overview of role:

The post holder will work as an integral member of the Nursing and Multidisciplinary team involved in providing evidence-based care to patients attending the hospital. The nurse will uphold the highest professional and ethical standards within the nursing model, which must be assessed, planned, implemented, and evaluated.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Professional Responsibilities

* Practice according to the Code of Professional Conduct laid down by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland and adhere to Clinical Guidelines.
* Follow the NMBI code for nurses and ensure subordinate staff do the same.
* Comply with Aut Even Hospital Guidelines, Policies, and Protocols.
* Work within your scope of practice and pursue ongoing professional development.
* Maintain high standards of professional behaviour and accountability.
* Provide a caring, efficient, and professional nursing service to all patients.
* Be aware of ethical policies relevant to your practice area.
* Access and report incidents and complaints via the Hospital Quality Management system - Q-Pulse.
* Respect patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
* Manage ward responsibilities in the absence of the CNMII.
* Support the orientation and development of new staff as a mentor/buddy when requested.

Clinical Practice

* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual care programs ensuring all patients receive appropriate care within the nursing model.
* Greet patients and relatives calmly and courteously, keeping them informed and involved.
* Assist with procedures and treatments, documenting observations accurately.
* Follow hospital policies for nursing procedures and medication administration.
* Respond to patient needs proactively, maintaining a calm ward environment.
* Promote holistic care and coordinate discharge planning with the multidisciplinary team.
* Use medical equipment safely and effectively.

Clinical Governance

* Engage in service improvement initiatives based on best practices and research findings.
* Participate in setting and maintaining professional standards.
* Ensure compliance with clinical governance principles, including quality, risk, and safety.
* Report incidents and participate in policy development and audits.

Administration

* Prepare shift handovers and maintain accurate patient records.
* Ensure ward cleanliness, supplies, and equipment readiness.
* Communicate effectively with the team and report staffing issues.
* Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges in line with hospital policy.

Education, Training & Development

* Attend training sessions and stay updated on clinical developments.
* Contribute to staff training and supervise student nurses.

Surgical and Medical Specializations

* Familiarize with up-to-date care practices for orthopedic and medical conditions such as Diabetes.

Additional Responsibilities

* Identify training needs, participate in lean projects, and promote quality and safety initiatives.
