Role Summary:
The Construction Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing multiple project sites, ensuring the timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery of works in accordance with programme, budget, and the required HSQE standards. This role plays a key part in project planning, resourcing, productivity monitoring, continuous improvement, and interdepartmental coordination. The role also includes the management of a subordinate responsible for the coordination of labour, plant, and subcontractors. At the heart of everything Coffey do are our company values. Key Responsibilities:
Planning & Project Delivery
* Work collaboratively with Contracts Managers and Project Managers to ensure all projects are planned and delivered in line with the company's strategy and values.
* Implement and monitor the Last Planner System (LPS) to improve predictability and planning accuracy across all sites.
* Ensure foremen, gangers, and operatives understand and fulfil their defined roles.
* Promote early and detailed project planning, with a strong focus on constructability and efficient methodology.
* Ensure resource allocation is coordinated by the 'Labour & Plant Coordinator' (labour, plant, subcontractors) across multiple projects to meet programme and commercial goals.
* Provide technical input on construction methodology during tender and delivery stages.
Health, Safety, Quality & Environment (HSQE)
* Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring full adherence to HSQE management systems, do the right thing, we act with integrity and earn trust through every decision.
* Conduct and report on monthly HSQE inspections using PowerApps.
* Promote safe work planning and practices across all activities and subcontractors.
* Ensure compliance with all project quality requirements and proactively address any non-conformances.
* Raise and manage PIR's to support defect resolution and lessons learned.
* Monitor environmental protection measures and waste management compliance on site.
Productivity Monitoring & Improvement
* Measure and monitor productivity across sites, identifying areas of poor/good performance.
* Lead the development and implementation of Productivity Improvement Plans, do it better, we constantly improve by learning, striving for excellence
* Review and report on working hours, training, travel, and resource utilisation metrics.
* Drive continuous improvement through data-driven analysis, lean thinking, and process enhancements.
Labour, Plant & Resource Coordination
* Manage and support the Labour & Plant Coordinator to ensure efficient resource distribution.
* Prioritise and coordinate labour and plant requirements across the company portfolio.
* Collaborate with the Plant Department on equipment needs, site accommodation, and maintenance.
* Continuously evaluate plant performance and opportunities for equipment and logistics innovation.
Interdepartmental Collaboration
* Work closely with internal departments to align on planning, design, plant logistics, safety, quality, and HR, do it together, we succeed through teamwork, collaboration and share purpose.
* Tendering: Provide input on resource plans and constructability.
* Design: Ensure buildability is considered and integrated early.
* Plant: Communicate needs and coordinate availability.
* HR: Support recruitment, resource planning, and training.
* HSQE: Partner to maintain safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Commercial Support
* Assist in construction budget reviews, programme updates, and resource forecasts.
* Monitor and assess actual costs vs. budget across multiple projects.
* Identify opportunities for cost saving and efficiency improvements.
Leadership & Reporting
* Mentor and develop site teams, fostering accountability and strong team culture.
* Promote a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
* Lead by example and represent operational values in interactions with all stakeholders.
* Attend monthly reviews with Sector Directors, presenting updates on project progress, HSQE, programme, cost, and resource.
Requirements:
* Minimum 10 years' experience in the Construction Industry in a similar role, with a strong track record in managing multiple sites.
* Proven leadership, planning, and resource management skills.
* Strong understanding of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
* Excellent collaboration and communication skills across all levels of the business.
