Our organization is seeking a highly skilled and experienced transport manager to lead our school bus services across the Southern Region, including Waterford and Cork.
The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing the efficient delivery of these services, ensuring safe and timely transportation of students. This role involves managing a large fleet and workforce, requiring exceptional leadership and coordination skills.
Key Responsibilities:
* Coordinate with key stakeholders, such as the Department of Education & Youth (DEY) and the Chief Schools Officer, to implement recommendations from the School Transport 2030 review.
* Develop and implement strategies to optimize bus and driver utilization, maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs.
* Recruit, train, and maintain high standards among school bus drivers, prioritizing safety and customer satisfaction.
* Oversee ongoing training, vetting, and record-keeping for drivers and contractors, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
* Manage contractor relationships and ensure vehicle safety and roadworthiness, upholding our commitment to excellence in service delivery.
* Conduct regular reviews of the School Transport Network to identify areas for improvement, enabling data-driven decision-making and operational enhancements.
* Support regional school transport offices and staff, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing across teams.
Requirements:
* Proven management experience within the transport industry, particularly in people management and operations.
* In-depth knowledge of legislation related to road passenger transport and the School Transport Scheme, ensuring seamless compliance.
* Proficiency in using MS Office tools, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ideally Power BI, to analyze data and inform strategic decisions.
* Familiarity with organizational IT systems, including SAP and Business Warehouse, streamlining communication and information exchange.
* Understanding of staff agreements and conditions, promoting fair treatment and respect for all employees.
* Experience with route planning and vehicle scheduling software, enhancing efficiency and productivity.
* Strong leadership and supervision skills, guiding team members to achieve shared goals and objectives.
* Knowledge of procurement processes for school transport contractors, ensuring transparency and value for money.
