Cognizant (LSMG) is executing projects for large biotech and pharma clients in Ireland. We require a Lead Automation Engineer for a project/service team in Dublin/Cork, responsible for delivery, commissioning, and on‑site support activities. The role involves developing and delivering the automation programme for bios manufacturing facilities, implementing solutions in line with S88 standards.
About Role
Lead DeltaV Engineer working with cutting‑edge Industry 4.0 solutions in a world‑leading bioprocess facility.
Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing project execution for automation aspects, ensuring quality and adherence to policies.
Design, develop, and implement process control systems using DeltaV for new and upgraded industrial process instrumentation projects.
Lead teams and interface with Project Managers to deliver installations on time and within budget.
Responsibilities
Lead a team of Process Automation System engineers in creating design documentation: Configuration Functional Design Specifications.
Consult with Safety Instrumented System Engineer for control strategies, implement new technologies such as DeltaV, DeltaV SIS, AMS.
Configure DeltaV Control Systems from control narratives & P&IDs using Function Blocks, Structured Text, and Sequence Function Charts.
Perform front‑end engineering design studies, control system configuration, integration of PLCs and field devices, FAT, site construction/installation, hot cutover support, CHE, SAT, commissioning, and start‑up.
Provide technical direction and solutions to customers; prepare engineering estimates for project execution.
Requirements
Automation and batch architecture consulting for customers applying S88 project concepts.
Experience solving complex control problems and starting up complex systems at customer plants.
Lead, plan, and organize project teams; mentor individuals.
Design, implement, and test controls for complex processes, providing application and process expertise.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Required Skills
BS in Electrical, Instrumentation, Chemical, or related engineering field.
Minimum 8 years industry experience; minimum 5 years DeltaV configuration experience (batch and continuous).
Process control project experience required.
Ability to develop proposals and quote large complex batch projects.
Expertise in current advanced control techniques and control requirements for process equipment.
Experience in startup of large automation projects.
Ability to cost‑justify process improvements and projects.
